Agreed, but where can he actually go at that price? Only New York has that kind of money left. Everyone else can only offer MLE. We can beat that.
Harell is not going to be worth losing KCP and Morris: ugghh Adding Matthews and Schroeder was such a great start to the offseason. Lakers could have just resigned Morris, Howard, and and KCP and been clearly better then last year. Now they may have some big holes to fill
Losing KCP isn't going to come back to haunt us like losing Dwight will. We have no answer for Jo,ic now in the playoffs. We will regress defensively with Harell. Will we improve enough on offense to make up for it?
It’s not ideal, but I remain optimistic. Rob continues to show he knows what he’s doing and has backup plans for his backup backup plans. People thought we had huge holes that would be impossible to overcome at the start of last season, some crapped on our roster pretty damn bad, but guys like Caruso and Dwight stepped up in ways we didn’t expect, and the signing of Morris late helped a lot. Hell even signing JR And Waiters probably helped keep key players fresh for the actual playoff run. I trust we will find solid minimum guys to replace what we had if we do lose these guys.
I’m going to give Rob the benefit of the doubt that they will add a big body. Keeping Dwight would have been great, but he only played half the playoffs. A guy like Gasol would do just fine.
Yep. We just won the ship. We got Trez to take less. We already have been the most active team and we just won. I have zero doubt that Rob can round this thing out with 2-3 vets for pennies. This is when ring chasers line up and jump on for our attempt to win a second one.
I'm with @Savory Griddles on this one the Lakers signings were all about defense first and foremost, some shooting, and fit last year. Harell is just not a good defender and the Lakers already improved offensively a large amount with Schroeder providing another shot creator that was the biggest weakness last year. I guess I'm a bit morose because I liked the philosophy and chemistry that team from last year. As I've said re-sign KCP and sign Gasol and that's one hell of a roster but Harrell IMO is not worth losing Howard, KCP, and maybe Morris and taking risks on buyouts. Our SG position goes from a being strength to be red flag w/o KCP same thing with backup C and the Jokic counter
I get you, and I don’t even really disagree if things go that way, but we just don’t know yet. If we do re-sign KCP and Morris we are in fantastic shape. This sort of thing happens to title teams though, contributors get money and bigger roles thrown at them by other teams trying to get their experience and to weaken us, these teams rarely run it back with all the same guys other than the stars. Really so far all we’ve done is replace Green, Rondo, Dwight and Cook with Schroeder, Matthews, and Harrell, and we still have a good chance of keeping KCP and Morris because not a lot of teams out there have money left to offer. But if they walk I still think there are backup plans in place. Still, I think even just getting younger and maybe finding long term pieces in Schroeder and Harrell are smart moves because a lot of times title teams have zero room to do anything else but sign super old vets for the minimum, that was an issue for the Shaq/Kobe Lakers near the end of that dynasty. Replacing Rondo and Dwight with younger and arguably better players is a smart move because if nothing else it gives us better trade assets. And to add to all that, I don’t see a lot of teams out there really getting better so far, we still have LeBron and AD and others are playing catch-up, but so far some of the talent is getting spread around and diluting teams, like the Clippers losing Harrell and Denver losing Grant to name a couple.
We aren’t done. Bet on that. But consider that Trez is 26, and AD and Schroder are 27... were building a dynasty here. One that is intended to be competitive after LeBron retires. Yes I would have loved to get Dwight back, but Rob is looking at the long game here, and even with that, it sounds to me like the plan was to get Dwight along with Trez all along, but Dwight being Dwight, he decided he didn’t want to wait an hour while we were on the phones. As great as our defense was last year, the turnaround to the new season this year needed drastic changes on the offense. LeBron would have no legs for the playoffs unless we got major offensive help in the regular season, and Schroeder is great, but he wouldn’t be enough for LeBron to take it easy and work back up to playoff LeBron. So Rob got Harrell at a major discount considering what contracts bigs are getting this off season. Have faith in Rob. He knows what he’s doing.

I would honestly do it anyway. He’s entering his prime and he’s shown to be the perfect SG offensively and defensively for this team. And this is coming from someone who wanted him waived after the first 8 games of last season, he completely turned it around.
I would’ve liked to see 4 years/40 million actually, but this is a solid deal for both sides. Glad to have him locked up, he’s a vital role player that we can depend on.
