yeah, if ham brings on one kokoskov-level offensive assistant, i don't care who else he brings on, tbh.
Yeah, we had the best player development guy in the business in Handy, and Sheed js going to improve AD's game? Color me skeptical.
just thinking the similar physical profile and sheed's experience might be different. i also don't know that handy worked with the big stars much, did he?
He's worked with Kawhi, LBJ, Irving, Kobe? Possibly others. Those are just off the top... And no, he's worked with mainly wing types of that's what you meant, I believe...
Yeah, not taking anything away from Handy. I think he's the best at the game at what he does. But maybe there's different perspective from someone who's 6-5 vs. 6-11 and moves more like AD does (prime Sheed, not fat Sheed at the end). I've seen Bron work with Handy, not sure how much AD has though. He had us bring in his own guy in Penberthy, so there's that. That didn't really work out for us. There's no guarantee that either will be back (I'm fine if Mikey leaves), so maybe Ham is looking for a Penberthy replacement with someone he trusts.
Yeah, well, we don't get a lot of the bedding the scenes stuff. If you watched Background Lakers, I didn't see it. He looked to be more involved with younger players and in some X's and O's type stuff. Getting back to Rasheed, I'm not excited. Let's see how the rest of it unfolds, though.
Something else to consider with the hire is we might get the end of the bench/specialists announced well before his top 1 or 2 assistants with the Jazz and Charlotte gig still open. Looks like the Charlotte gig will wrap up tomorrow after MJ meets with each candidate (MDA and Atkinson), but the Jazz gig sounds wide open. Some of those guys could be hoping to be considered there or create bidding competition for assistant HC gig with Lakers and either of those teams. Accepting a position before you can leverage more money for yourself isn't smart business. So I could see the lesser names not in those talks get leaked now... like Sheed. I wouldn't be entirely against adding Big Ben to shadow the Rambii and to occasionally growl at them. I'd chip in on a go fund me for that.
yeah, i'm not sure end-of-the-bench assistants are worth fussing over. then again, we got burned with walton's staff a bit, right?
Yes. I wouldn't put as much emphasis on it if Ham wasn't a first year head coach. I think he's going to lean a lot on his assistants. He needs as much help as possible.
If Wallace is a lead assistant, sure...that's a problem. Otherwise, I'm not really seeing a big deal here. I'm assuming he's being brought in to be tough on AD and serve as the voice of a respected former player to the stars. I don't feel any particular way about this addition. Let's just wait and see how the rest of the coaching team shakes out.
I loved prime Sheed’s game. Hot headed personality but his skills were outstanding. One of my favorite non Lakers of the era.
