Right. If any of these guys stink we won’t be able to move them because they will be both overpaid and have player options.

Four POs on Four new contracts is just inexcusable. Also, letting Smart, Kennard, AND Rui walk out the door and getting NOTHING in return is just awful asset management, again.

 

I'm certain that everyone worried about how tradeable these contracts are (all <$15M AAV sans Kessler) was adamantly against giving someone like Watson +$30M after 1 year of being a rotation player who played 54 games. Feel like people are jaded by Vando, but all of these guys are more than an energy guy that can't catch a ball or shoot. Reading these threads you'd think we signed them all to $30M per.

 

I don’t “hate” Rob.
I just hate the fact that he’s an awful GM who gave out three of the worst contracts this summer after signing Kessler.
He really outdid himself this time.

 

I think you all know what we’re getting at with criticisms on the amount of the contracts, length, and player options. Shaving a million or so off those deals still gives these players good deals and potentially puts us in position to keep a guy like Smart.

Vando, Knecht, etc definitely aren’t the first guys we’ve run into issues finding trades for.

 

at least you were right the Reaves contract isn't even bad compared to giving out these high and long contracts to bench guys.

it seems like the work of a dude who knows he's going to probably be fired and doesn't give a damn where the franchise will be in 2/3 years.

 

Dude, I would have loved for Rob to have convinced Austin and his agent to re up for less. If we had a more capable GM, I’m sure this would have happened.

I've never claimed Rob is good at his job or that we need to keep him long term. I have said he'll likely be fired by next year and I won't lose any sleep over it. I think 90% of NBA GM's are mediocre at best, including Rob. Just a little tired of the double standard that anything that doesn't pan out = bad Rob and any good move = lucky Rob.

I wish we could have kept either/both Smart and Kennard at the contracts they got. I don't like that we had to give both available 1sts for Kessler. I don't like the player options, but disagree that the contracts can't be moved in the future. I've been around long enough to see teams sign players to contracts that made me wonder what they were thinking, only to later package those guys for impact players.

Am I defending Rob by using data that indicates Mamu is better than Rui across the board? Or pointing out that Grimes is clearly a Luka pick? Or noting that without Lebron we needed another creator so while I don't necessarily love Sexton, I understand the hole he fills? I had all of our signings on my list of players I'd consider going into FA, but not necessarily this particular combination.

I don't love this roster, but I don't think it's the end of the world. Rob will probably be gone by next offseason and the new GM will likely move some of these supposedly untradeable contracts.

 

all this. fire rob; i don't care. the next person isn't going to suddenly make every correct decision and sign every player we want to every contract we want.

the player options are weird and bad.

but all the signings are pretty defensible, even if they may not be the ones i'd have chosen.

but i would have chosen DFS last year, and i should be fired for it.
