    willfully obtuse it is then.

saying "foh" doesn't prove anything here. nico traded luka here in large part due to his relationship with rob. this is well-documented on both sides. denying it is kind of typical slick.

i didn't say AD wasn't good--i said he was a far inferior trade piece to giannis and ant, all things considered. debating this would be stupid.

through agents. you know, what rob did in his former job. you really think guys ask for and accept buyouts in very specific amounts without knowing their options ahead of time?

    lamest take ever.

people:eek:ur gm is the worst, so stupid. not up to the task.
me: actually, lots of evidence suggests he's not stupid, nor the worst.
them: you think he's the best!

no, i think gnashing your teeth over not getting buddy hield four years ago is a bad way to spend your mental energy. i'm trying to help you.

I find it interesting that the most intense anti Rob stuff ALWAYS seems to crop up only a few weeks right before actual movement periods, before we see what he does. Even “during” those periods before they’re completed as happened this past FA period.

Because it sets the table to focus on what he actually does?

…. and usually turns out was a bunch of ill spent angst at THAT time, with what was actually doable. Certainly this summer with the trashing over losing DFS. From some.

just gets immediately memory-holed, i guess. but you're not allowed to bring that up as it means you're wearing an i heart rob t-shirt as opposed to just saying that overreacting to our own inventions isn't a great use of time.

That's pretty sanctimonious of you there professor. There are some people around here, that think trading Austin for Giannis is a bad idea! It's called an opinion. Saying AD and Max for Luka, is a far inferior package, is also an opinion. You keep referencing this great friendship as somehow more important than the players involved. I reject that nonsense, following your logic, we would have landed Luka whether we had AD or not..just match the salaries, and Nico was going to gift his boy Luka anyway? Full of Hubris with that take bud.

through agents. you know, what rob did in his former job. you really think guys ask for and accept buyouts in very specific amounts without knowing their options ahead of time?

Agh..so Rob is the master manipulator now huh? He set out to convince these agents to convince their clients to specifically ask for a buyout to come to the Lakers? That's your take? Nevermind what the players themselves said..it was really all an intricate Rob devised scheme? Man you are REALLY reaching hard for you boy Pelinka, here with that s***.

I thought it was a great move too considering his price, surgery rehab and replacing him with Jake.

    Meh..evidence huh? OK let's see.

Costing AD money because he didn't file the paperwork on time..included in the trade was a bad look.

Breaking up the chip team immediately after the bubble was a bad idea.

Bungling the pg situation the following season, when the team was already over the cap was a bad look. Rob could have traded THT and Shroeder for Lowry and got a FRP in return. Instead he let Dennis walk for nothing, after having just given up a frp for him.

Then trying to trade Kuz and Trez for Hield was another dumb idea.

He then promptly traded for Westbrook, because there weren't any other options to land a starting pg. Everyone hated the Westbrook trade, including YOU.

He then chose Tucker over Caruso. Another dumb idea.

He blew the 47M expiring contract he got from Westbrook, by letting the salaries he picked up in that trade Beasley and Mamba, walk for nothing. Along with Beverly who he traded Tucker for. Then in the following season, he had the nerve to bemoan our lack of tradable assets as reason that he couldn't make any move. Yeah because he let those contracts go for nothing. Dumb idea.

He then handed out player options like candy, in the following season that again hamstringed any moves that he could have made at the trade deadline. Another Poor decision.

The JHS draft .Dalton..he hasn't shown any particular brilliance at drafting players with FRP either. So I'm not inclined to believe he will be great rebuilding through the draft at all.

There is plenty of evidence that this guy is mediocre at his job IMO. He fired Frank after giving him a roster of senior citizens. Fired Ham saying that he wanted more experience on the bench. Then promptly hired a podcaster with absolutely zero coaching experience. Who then got throughly out coached in the playoffs.

No..lucking into AD and Luka doesn't erase these mistakes. IMO. Feel free to disagree.

I do think Rob undervalues role players and is too hesitant to trade future firsts for them. We could probably have Ellis right now if he was willing to trade a future first, which I would be. The Turner/Hield trade would have been better than what we ultimately did. The counterargument to that is he did eventually trade a first to get off of Russ and tried to trade a first and more to get Williams. I don't like that he prefers to make trades closer to the deadline rather than paying a little more to get them done over the summer. I think he tried to hold out to make the perfect move, rather than making incremental improvements. I also don't think he has much of a team-building vision. Look at the C Bags - their front office and coaching staff is in complete alignment in how they want to play and the front office identifies players capable of fitting into that program.

But he's not like the worst GM in the world. After we lost out on Kawhi in 2019 he kind of established the blueprint for 2020s team building with the supporting cast of the 2020 team. Schroder and Gasol were nice tweaks to the title team. He's not doing reckless s*** like the Pelicans trading an unprotected first when they're the most injury-riddled team year after year. If anything, I think he's a bit too conservative. Obviously the Russ trade and everything to do with the 2022 team was a disaster, but we've litigated the proportionate responsibility for that for years. I feel similar about Rob to how I felt about Ham tbh. I don't think Ham was a value add, and firing him was completely fine, but I also never thought he was like the worst coach in the world like some did.

i don't disagree on some of the points. i do on others. point is i can make a list that long about any gm, including whomever people want to replace rob. mistakes are made. there are no mistake-free general managers in the nba.

if some other gm had done what rob has for another franchise, people would think they were pretty good at their job, imo. because he's here, he's under a microscope from fans and the media and gets little dings blown up into huge deals and his huge hits are treated as if they were dumb luck and sure to happen even if he wasn't here. the luka thing is a great example. i'm actually pretty damn sure that if nico's buddy weren't our gm, we'd have AD on the IR right now and probably would have been forced to throw our firsts after trae young.

i think that's the main (valid) critique. i tend to think like that as well, though, so it's probably why it doesn't bother me. like, i bet rob's thinking the DFS move was a mistake right now, and i tend to agree. but the fans loved it. turns out we burned three second rounders for two months of pretty meh play. this is my fear with sending out firsts for role players. for stars and starters? sure. bench players and glue guys? no. you have to find and develop those, a la laravia.

and i'm still sure that if a legit starter in the right age range that fits with roster comes available in the next month, we'll throw all the picks and expirings on the table. we just aren't going to broadcast it right now. just like last year.

I thought no he made a mistake by not making that Turner/Hield trade.
Would it have enabled us to win another Chip? Maybe. Maybe not. We would at least have one good asset and another decent one to flip.
I do agree that he has been a bit too conservative at times, but the guy just got us Luka last season. We got rid of AD at the perfect time and swapped him for a top three player.
Some will never be happy with our moves, wether it’s Rob or someone else.
