in the short term, at the end of the day it's bad for their pockets if Luka leaves the franchise, and that means ensuring we put together competitive teams around him so he signs an extension.

in the long term, obviously it sounds a lot better to be run by the guys who managed the Dodgers.

Longtime Fan: Iger has closely followed and supported the LA Clippers for decades, frequently attending their home games courtside.

    I'm going to go puke.

guess we'll just have to wait and see what moves these new owners make

are they going to prioritize winning over everything else? or do they see the lakers as nothing but an investment and will cheap out on everything to raise profit margins like the blazers owner is doing?

at least with walter, you already saw his body of work with the dodgers and it was clear that winning was the priority

I think I would actually prefer the Buss family stayed in charge than be sold to these clowns who have no loyalty to us or our legacy, f***.

I was already worried we were going to waste Luka. The Lakers have become a broken home. I would not put my faith in this franchise if I was a young star player.

Joshua Kushner is a Democrat who disagrees with Trump politically. His wife voted for Clinton, Biden, and Kamala in all three Trump elections. He's not a pro-Trumper.

I think this is potentially bad for the Lakers. I thought the Walter connections were putting in a good relationship with Luka.

The problem with Kushner and Iger is both of them can't afford to buy the Lakers so while they may be the majority owners collectively, a lot of investment funds are pooling money for this purchase.

These investment funds aren't holding companies the way Mark Walter's company owned other sports teams and that's their line of business.

This will be flipped and profits will be prioritized when the time is right which really makes the decision-making of this team moving forward questionable because of how much money was raised to purchase this and every party wants to cash out eventually.

Worth mentioning that the Buss family collectively still have a 15% stake remaining. I'd be upset if I were them. They lost out on $1.5 billion by not waiting a year! Also, depending on the stake each party takes on, it's possible that the Buss family might be the 2nd or 3rd largest ownership stake of the Lakers. Good luck lol!

What if all this was/is a facade? The mere thought of hearing Trump's name when discussing the Lakers makes me wanna barf.
Isn't this Kushner guy the same person, who wanted to screw over FIFA (with his scumbag buddy Infantino)?

Some early over reactions here. I doubt any of us have any substantive idea how the new ownership is going to handle the basketball side of the team.

I'll use Iger as an example because I know nothing about Kushner. Bob Iger, love him or hate him, was a money making machine at Disney. IF he chooses to stay on the business side and churns out money with the Lakers brand like he did the Disney brand, then more power to him.

I just hope that both of them are smart enough to hire top quality FO people, and stay out of the basketball decisions.

Three things are super interesting to me about this:

Did Mark Walter intend to sell from the beginning? Was it his stroke that convinced him to back out? Was it the Fed investigation? Inquiring minds want to know.

How in the world did this happen without even a hint of an insider report?

Did they inform Luka about the sale?

i doubt he brings in all those dodgers people if his intention from the beginning was to sell. not to mention that 2.5 bil is pocket change for a guy with his net worth. i think the investigation is more serious than people thought and that's the main motivation for selling

LOL at all the "Walter and his team know how to operate a sport franchise" and it was all a front to do a spin...

If any of you somehow think this is a good thing, you are a goddamn moron. These are finance bros of the worst, corrupted kind. They will sell their mother if that meant more profit, they would milk the Lakers for all they are worth, and coudn't care less about winning, I am sure.

    Well, FML. Run, Luka, run.
