Great game tonight, he is a great shooter. I'd love to keep Kennard, Smart, Rui off the bench. They're all real rotation players with elite skills.
if his goal is to win, he should be open to pay cut here with the promise that if he plays well, we'll use early bird rights to make him whole next year. people are going to get bored of me repeating this like a mantra, but that needs to be our pitch to kennard, smart, and lebron: short-term pain, long-term gain, financially. we'll have early bird rights to kennard and smart next summer and will be operating over the cap. we'll have lebron's full bird rights next summer and be operating over the cap. rob's shown that he'll play this game and can be counted on to deliver (kcp), and the new owner will pay the luxury taxes to make it possible. if all three of these guys would just take small amounts, we could really add pieces this summer.
Agree with this Hang with us guys and let ud fill in the roster this year And next year we can reward you
Mark Walter is the 800lb gorilla of deferring BIG BIG money to convince players in the MLB to sign. Seems like a reasonably semi-smart guy and he'll figger out how to go about that in the NBA.
Cost himself $3-5 million per year by just being average in the playoffs, IMO. good for the Lakers to snag him for cheaper. I think the league is pretty much going to see Kennard for what he has always been but he has a chance to still play a bigger role for the Lakers. Doubtful he can get anything more than $12 million. I agree, sign for less $ and let the Lakers build out this roster and get more talent and when the time comes, the Lakers will do right by you. If he's on the hunt for $15 million or whatever, time to go. I think he's around that $8-12 million mark if you ask me. The problem with Kennard is he's trying to be a perfectionist out there with his shot selection. Like dude, it's okay to chuck up threes if you're as good of a shooter as you are. This dude is allergic to missing three point shots so he has a fear of missing them more-so than just taking them. I'd rather he be 40% from three taking 8 3's per game and being a legitimate threat out there than dancing around taking 4 threes per game on 45% shooting. those few % points are meaningless but those extra threes you launch keep the other team on their toes.
Definitely want to keep Kennard. Sign him to a 1 year 10m contract and then give him 15m per next year for 3. It’s effectively a 4/60 deal. Just in two stages.
