You can take him West and Clips. I don't want him here period and then when you factor in his age and mileage at that point. Ticking time bomb of injuries and drastic regression.
It's a fair point. I still want him. All I think about with the Lakers is 17 banners in one city and 16 banners in another... LeBron gets us closer to 17 banners. And I've hated on the guy for a long time, but I love Kyrie and I'll love Paul George. If LeBron can help us get to the Finals, let Paul George be the guy who wins us the games.
I think LeBron would rather join the Clippers over the Lakers so he could become their savior the same way he became the savior of the Cavs. Plus, his demands of essentially being the coach and GM would be far more likely to be accepted by a desperate Clippers team willing to do anything to win their first title. I can't discount a possibility he joins the Lakers, but he would have to relinquish all quasi coaching and GM responsibilities, and I just don't see his massive ego allowing that to happen. Remember, one of the main reasons why he left the Heat was to escape Pat Riley's powerful personality that he could not subjugate into submission. He likes to be the king of a franchise, and that's more likely to happen with the Clippers as opposed to the Lakers.
Hey I don't disagree completely. I think there's logic to what you're saying. The Clippers would love to be the franchise that bent over backwards (or forwards) to satisfy LeBron. I think there's a good chance what you say holds merit, especially if the Clippers retain Chris Paul. I think the real key to watch in that is Chris Paul's health and how the Clippers find ways to shed salary to get LeBron's attention. Keep in mind, if they go that route then LeBron is going to want to assemble the banana boat gang over there. The old timers all getting together for one last hurrah and ending their careers together. If he were to come to LA, he'd have to relinquish that control like you said, but the Lakers are a different animal and he'd have to know that. He'd have to understand he's coming here at the end of his career, not the beginning and we aren't going to hand him anything. He'd be joining George and our kids as a mentor/the guy who shows the way to the mountaintop, not as the controller anymore. People can tell me all they want the Clippers are closer to contention than the Lakers, but if we add Paul George, then I don't think it's so clear cut anymore. We'll just have to wait and see what appeals to LeBron. If he wants his banana boat gang, I'm not interested in that. I'm not here to serve as a vanity project for all the older stars. I'm here to get #17 (and hopefully a couple more after that).
This is something Irwin posted a while back that he's reaffirming. I don't know exactly how connected Irwin is. He's a local blogger and has some media access, but I'm not sure he has real cache. I don't know what his source would be. I'm going to file this as "smoke" for now.
lebron to la feeling a little like lebron to cleveland...at first you're like...nah...and then it's like...wait a second...
