I thought he was awful in 3 of the 4 games since he's been back and it's made the roster need that much louder. I will give him a little leeway since he doesn't have his timing and conditioning down since his return. But he wasn't a factor against the Hawks (only Laker without a positive net rating). Aquaman ran him off the court, not having anyone to fight him on the glass is one of the primary reasons we lost that game...that was downright horror-ific. Against Dallas, he was a foul magnet. He's a fine 3rd string C, but I actually think Koloko is currently the better player. Only issue is JJ hates Koloko for not bringing him his morning coffee and paper. Also, he's a two-way, so there are a finite number of games he's eligible to play with the big team. Bottom line is we don't have a backup center. We have platoon of 3rd string Cs. We have other options at backup (and I'm sure this will be debated in other threads as I play catchup) -- Bron, Rui, DFS, Vando. BUT even with the small ball look, you need an actual C you can dust off and throw out there when needed for 2-3 shifts and 12-20 minutes...at least.
We should stop looking for vet mins to fill the backup 5 role. We seem to move like it's an inconsequential position. That's a problem.
as we've discussed ad nauseum, the issue is that AD would prefer us to have a starting center, not a backup center. anyway, i feel like there are several of each type on the market this year, and we should be able to do this. failure to do so, imo, means the front office doesn't agree with us or AD about this.
He's your franchise player bro..at some point we should give the man what he keeps asking for. I think Anthony has been a good soldier here, he doesn't complain or whine. Maybe he just needs to be more of an A-hole about it.
Yeah, it's a combination. They've devalued the position and the expected to hit gold like they did on Dwight's prove it deal. That's not how this works. We don't have to think it's a $20m role, but should at least look at it as a $10m role(s), however they want to distribute that money... one player, two players...i don't care. Edit: it's also why I think we were planning on drafting a C until Knecht fell into our lap. At a rookie scale, you're not spending much on the position. Missi would've looked nice right about now had DK not been there.
Can we please properly slot him post- deadline. 3rd string, energy big. Scrape him off the bench for 10 minutes, 3 lobs, 2 blocks and 5 fouls. Then he sits for 6 days and no one gives a s***
vet mins are going to vet min. AD being out is going to drive that point home in a very uncomfortable way.
i'm really wondering if koloko isn't already a better player than hayes, tbh. i don't hate hayes, either. he's perfectly fine as a situational backup center. you just can't roll like that. we need another non-vet min big, period.
Didn't noticed this thread and just went on a rant on another thread about this guy. He's useless, he needs to go and try to use this slot in someone more useful
Yeah, I’ve been complaining about his effectiveness since week two of the season. Apparently Rob thinks we still don’t have a “big” situation here.
I honestly don’t know how to answer this. I only know that I’m not expecting any trades to happen for us, again.
