Just seeing how deep LA was and what they were sending to the plate in the 8th and 9th innings, I was worried. Our closers have been pretty spotty so far.
Yes if they stay healthy they are not out of any game. I think LA could have * or more guys with 20 plus homers this year: Shohei, Freddie, Mookie, Edman, Teo, Max (if he can find his stroke), Conforto, Kike. That is scary for opposing pitchers. They feel like Kobe/Shaq teams to me in that I never think they are out of a game. Philly, to me, is a true blue collar team. Fundamental baseball with some serious danger at the top of that lineup. I believe they are a WS favorite too.
I'll also add one of the Dodgers biggest advantage is that they can coast (for lack of a better word) with the starter and then ambush the relievers. Most teams don't have enough #1's or #2 level pitchers to easily take a series from these guys. But, we know that we play the game because paper don't mean nothing.
I think this is where the Dodgers is the most dangerous where they get between the starter and closer. Kills me that we gave so much away during that half a inning. Looking like its going down to the wire (7-7 now)
Shohei back on the mound finally being brought along carefully after his 2nd Tommy John surgery ….. wheeling and dealing with his assortment of nasty pitches and 100mph heater with a 1.50 ERA doesn’t suck.
The bad period continues. We lose and badly against the Brewers, 9-1. They make 4 L in a row, with a run differential of -31. Yamamoto closes the game with 0 strikeouts: first time in his big league career. And as in his debut in Seoul last season, he gave up five runs in the first inning. On the other side, we had no answers against Peralta. Zero. Shohei's struggle continues.
Sixth consecutive loss, not seen since April 2019. Sweeped by the Brewers. Ours second in a row. We led 2-1 until the ninth, then they tied it and won in the tenth. The bats were still freezing, and the pitching team was obviously feeling the brunt of injuries. Good news: Tyler Glasnow is back. He hadn't played in 10 weeks. He was on the mound for 5 innings and 85 pitches.
