Sabotage your own value? Not sure about that This has to be in his head He needs to get out of the funk and grow a set
Just not the brightest tool in the shed. it's too bad that combination of athleticism and shooting is just very very rare.
It's not that rare. They're just too expensive for the Lakers. Tough to find an athletic 3/D player because those go for $15-20 million starting.
tbh, shooters like knecht minus athleticism still go for 15+. duncan robinson just got re-signed to that number for 3 years, right?
possible. also possible he's pressing a bit. also possible he's been told to work on other things. and he's also not a guy who can play summer league streetball without a pg. didn't we have that bald guy last year? yeah, kuhse! you just can't roll out there without a pg when the refs are letting extremely desperate folks just mug ballhandlers to make it to the league. anyway, none of that excuses that he's just a big zero out there on both ends amongst a bunch of guys who likely return to non-basketball jobs in two weeks. it's rough.
The problem with Dalton is that he is exactly the same player he was the first day in the league. He has not improved in any kind of skill, he's always the type of player who needs to make 3s to be decent on the floor. I'm sure that the trade with the Hornets has been the end of his story with us, no way to go through that thing. And considering the kind of player he's, that trade would have been perfect for him to put up big offensive stats in a team which has no ambition.
yeah, we're going to end up dumping him or throwing him in on a trade, and he's going to put up some numbers on a bad team, and everyone's going to say how dumb we were. but it's just not happening given our current roster makeup. bad timing on this pick. and i liked the pick, and i still think he could have a long career as a scoring specialist. we just really can't afford to play or develop him right now. and i agree that the latter just may not be a thing. he's going to be a guy who you just have to live with his flaws. we can't do that with luka, lebron, and reaves as our top guys.
He was unlucky he came to a team where the bigger stars are offensive minded. We need to round out the roster with defensive guys. After the AD-Luka trade he makes no sense in this team He will definitely be a good scorer like Simons or even Beal, but doesn't fit our short to mid term plan
Having seen him play in NCAA, I was very happy with his pick. Because I thought he could give us a big hand from the bench: a lot of ball in hand, a lot of offensive volume and space for himself, to bring quick points from the bench and make the 2nd unit more decent. After all, very often the 6th man of a decent team is a purely offensive player, oriented to bring quick points in a short time. Knecht was also used very badly by us, this must be said.
Dalton doesn't have much of an on-ball game and hasn't figured out the movement shooting aspect of his game yet. Right now he's a spot-up shooter that can do some basic pin downs. Not an archetype that can dominate summer league without on-ball players that can collapse the defense. But not only has he not dominated, he's just been terrible. Disappointing to say the least.
What's interesting to me is in that 37 point game last year he just flowed. He was in complete control and looked unstoppable.
Confidence plus he had a green light to hoist that game. He was THE focal point that game. Limited minutes and opps are detrimental to his development.
