Kaluma is a no brainer honestly. I still like Manon's potential and would like to see us keep developing him if possible.

 

I feel like the Lakers might view Thiero as the long-term power forward and just want him to work on his shot and to slow down a little. He's defintly a rotation piece, but might not be ready to start right away. You can't really trot him out there as a starter yet without knowing what kind of shooter Kessler is going to be. If Kessler shoes that his horizontal floor-spacing is real, the nyou could confidently insert Thiero into the starting unit, even without his shooting not being fully developed yet. But we are going to see how Kessler's shooting is in pre-season and during the season a bit. That's why I feel like the Lakers might be eying a short-term option at starting power-forward. That tracks with the Lakers rumored dis-interest in Washington.

The rumor was the lakers were not interested in the pj contract, and this was before Thiero showing out even more. but just a rumor. but maybe thats part of it. seems lakers might be looking just for a short term power forward. rumor was they offered kumina 2 years/20 million when the had cap room- this kind of suggests that. even a sign and trade would have a player option after year 2, where they could just let him walk. We could offer Kuminga about 17 million a year and still keep our full MLE next year i think. So, Kuminga actually does make sense in that regard. In terms of shooting, Kuminga is good-enouigh. He's a more advanced shooter than Thiero, good enough to put in there with Kessler's unproven shooting.

I wonder if there are any other options other than Kuminga? I woud be open to trading for PJ, if we also get off of Vando's contract. Cam Johnson, Bobby Portis, Justin Champengie? Or maybe the solution might be simply starting Kaluma?

It's July - I think ATL's asking price will come down, IMO. But alas, we must wait for LBJ's decision; as others have noted, this is probably dragging it out. I was on LG, and there was a poster who mentioned listening to the locked on ATL episode yesterday, and they had to mention the same issues Kuminga has had before in GS in ATL. If that's the case, I wouldn't include all the assets I have for him; it's a risk on our end, but I'd only pull the trigger if the contract and pieces going out make sense.

Sign Kaluma, make room for Thybulle, and try to find another big. Maybe we can play forward by committee until ATL's price comes down or Rob has a contigency in place.

 

Yeah Kuminga definitly has a lot of red flags. I wouldn't break the bank for him either. Having Thiero on the roster minimizes the desperation for a 4. A way we could benefit of any trade for a semi-expensive to expensive power forward, could be dumping off some of our spare parts in an unbalanced trade. For example, if were to trade LaRavia, Hardy and the 2032 pick swap for Kuminga, we could also sign Thybulle. So the trade is in a sense LaRavia, Hardy, 2032 pick swap for Kuminga and Thybulle. We win that trade. Pay Kuminga a deal that starts at 17m this season, not sure what the AAV is. Give him the player option in year 3 and let him opt out. By that time, Vando's deal is off the books, Thiero more than ready, and we could re-assess then.

I’m not sure if this is on the table for this price or not but gun to my head I would rather have Demar Derozen for the minimum as a stop gap over Kuminga.

I would also be fine with Matesse Thybulle for that reason as well.

I don’t think Kuminga’s the guy you commit over $20mil/season on a long term contract for and sometimes the best move is to stay patient and see what becomes available during the next transaction cycle (around trade deadline).

By that time the expiring contracts of Hardy/Knect/Laravia become a lot more appealing to teams who start looking towards opening up cap space for next summer by salary dumping players who don’t fit their timelines.

 

I will say, the more this drags out and more info comes out, the more I am cool with us moving on. I believe Kuminga would be great, but like.....I feel like we could add a 2-Way and some Vets, like others are suggesting, and call it good. Kuminga can go wherever and if it works out for him there, good. Maybe we can trade for PJ Washington at the Deadline. If not, maybe he wants to be traded to the Lakers at the Deadline. I feel like the Lakers can wait things out now.......

 

Would have much rather had a guy like Saadiq Bey.

 

yeah, i'm just not sure he was/is available. i'd also have liked coulibaly, but i'm not sure if he was available, either. we have a working relationship with washington, and coulibaly and even maybe whitmore are guys that could help us and are slipping on their depth chart a bit. dybantsa and george are ahead of them, and they spent a high pick on johnson last year and apparently really like will riley.

the bucks have jacquez and dieng as wings with kuzma and levert as vets on the way out. if they'd take vando and a 2nd, i'd consider either as a stopgap wing. not my top choices, of course, but both are expiring, so if things went south, they might be able to be moved.

edit: i'm also watching the grizzlies. they have 18 players under contract right now, one of whom is gg jackson, who is another ziaire williams type project. i suppose they could just cut clayton, aj johnson, and kcp, but it would still be really crowded on that roster for developmental projects.

Cleveland can offer Kuminga even less money than Lakers,and they still don't know what to do with Harden so why he's suddenly is more likely to sign there
It's just proving that most of insiders has no idea and some of them don't know how salary cap works
