i couldn't find the 16 cited in the article, but if they wanted to send back one or more expendable end-of-roster guys, we could probably expand the trade to take them.

for example, cory kispert's deal is long term. maybe we add vando, and they could add kispert and gueye (if he's under contract)?

i think we could take up to 29m back if it were vando/knecht/laravia, so S&T'd kuminga could get to that 15 number. they shed a year or two off kispert's deal and get knecht, who could be a cheaper one-year replacement?

    i don't know. i'm desperate.

I don’t want to go this route but another mechanism to potentially improve the team that I haven’t heard being discussed… trade Carr

I don’t think he’s signed his rookie contract yet so we could still technically include his draft rights in a trade

If there is any team that was high on him in the draft, I wonder if he’s enough sweetener to throw on top of a Vando/Knecht package to actually get back a solid rotation piece

philly just needed to fire morey, i guess.

if we could send knecht and laravia for kuminga, we could still stretch-waive vando and use that money to sign rui.

not sure rui would want it after that; though it may beat what the market has for him.

Definitely Jaylon Brown trade was made under duress. They wanted to get off of his money. This is the financial side of basketball. It wasn’t about basketball. Jaylon was due more money and new extension on his deal. They were up against it. And they had to move him asap. So they took the best deal possible. s*** we could’ve traded for him because we can offset his cost.

are you kidding me?????? Nahhhh dude. Bump that idea. And stop. Carr is just as important to the future success of the Lakers as Kessler Luka and Reaves. He’s our 3-D. Never make trades like that. Yeah the Clippers attached Shai just to get Paul George the established player. We aren’t trading the one athlete we have with this bunch.

Abeer can you please do a post about Money in the NBA???? These teams hide behind innuendo of the trade just didn’t make sense. Boston didn’t want to give Gianniss an extension they didn’t want to give Jaylon an extension. The new owners don’t want to spend they have Tatum on a super max. Buckle up Boston.

lol, i honestly have no insight on that. one thing boston has avoided is paying guys that are getting older. they built this last era on dumping kg and pierce before they went off a cliff. the might just believe that both brown and giannis are going off a cliff. now, paul george has a player option after this year, so it's possible they think they can rehab him horford style, sign him to a cheaper three year deal, and have better flexibility.

i think they definitely got spooked when their band of plucky role players got kind of run over in the playoffs, too, such that they think two supermaxes is untenable in the modern nba.

finally, they've hinted more than once that they think their second-best player is actually derrick white.

i don't know; i'm throwing stuff against the wall. i just feel like they could have gotten a lot more--at the very least quicker salary relief, etc.

i mean, they like trey murphy. instead of trading multiple picks for murphy, would NO have given them murphy and poole's expiring, plus 2 picks. gotta feel like that answer is yes, right?

Philly is doing a very nice job this offseason. A mini Luka trade steal, now gettign signing Simmons in a prefect role/fit for him. That's a Finals winning level of guard and wing play right there

Where does everyone come up with the idea that Luka needs an extra defensive roster ? HIS best run with Dallas was with Kyrie, two mediocre defense forwards and centers who are simply athletic, but not great
And Kessler by mile better than Lively

Because they got beat badly in 5 games by the C Bags in that finals and there’s a lowlight reel of Luka being a traffic cone on defense. Fair or not that’s why.

I don't think we can count with Rui for any future trades. Things change but we spent 2 years trying to trade him and he's available in a pretty bad FA and nobody is picking him up. While many teams are searching for his prototype.

I think teams are now heavily leaning towards analytics and Rui likely doesn't bode well there. I also think there's a lot of dumb people in these teams using analytics wrong (like what happened to Brown). It clearly looks like a trend

I'd dump Vando. It's more expensive but I still trust Jake and think he will be valuable throughout the year. He can play 2-4 and is always available, he'll be important through regular season, especially in such a thin roster. And I'm hoping for an improvement in his play too
