Don't want this to get lost - Grimes being off the board would be a significant blow for us. To me, he was maybe the best combo of fitting a need for us and actually being attainable. Guess it's still possible since he's unrestricted, not restricted.

I get the point, but it's not championship or bust for all teams. There's a few markets that will always be competitive and then there's a bunch of teams that either luck out on a late pick like Jokic, Giannis, Curry or get a #1 pick in the right years like Wemby, Flagg or Ant. It doesn't happen every year.

The Wizards can't tank forever until such pick comes to them. They have a good young core and I'm advocate that competitive basketball helps you grow. I think that'll provide opportunities for these guys to settle as good NBA players. Then maybe it clicks and they get a ECF appearance, or the kids grow enough and they are in a better position to continue to compete without the old guys.
It's very unlikely that ends in a ring, but it may very well make the fans enthusiastic again, improve sales and tickets and have a couple years of serious basketball in their gym. With the East this open, I really don't mind the gamble

Like your "fantasy" you or anyone else knows the facts of what Rob, Mark's lieutenants and Mark himself are actually strategizing behind closed doors? I know you hate me replying, sorry. I hate that you always assume the worst before seeing what actually happens .... like within one more day. Jeanie isn't running this show. Rob's been paid and should be in no fear for his future if fired at the end of the season. Logic would assume he's doing everything in his power, short of conjuring up winning trades that aren't there, to be addressing this deadline and this off season how Walters wants it addressed. Do you seriously think Mark's having zero input NOW? Being as competitive as he's proven to be and is thinking PUNT?

Bulls are on firesale. White traded for 3 second rounds.

Funny thing is we can't even match that offer

What drives me crazy is these articles will say we don’t want to sacrifice cap space but in the next paragraph also say we’ve called on every defensive wing in the league, many of whom have contracts beyond this season.

To me it’s simple: we’re not taking bad contracts. You can take on questionable contracts and potentially move them later when you have draft capital or cost-controlled contracts, both of which we lack.

We're in a tough spot. I don't think there's anything we can do to contend this year. We're heading for an LBJ breakup. I wish we could just ship him now and get what we can, but that'd be too convenient.

So basically Nico Harrison traded Luka for Khris Middleton and Marvin Bagley? That’s diabolical lol. Dallas better be thankful Silver gifted them with the #1 draft pick last season.

I'm not sure how I feel about it for the Wizards, but i love it for AD and DLO.

AD won't have to deal with the pressure that was always going to be there in Dallas and why he came back too soon from injury. It's a fresh start on a team with zero expectations and it's a decent sized market. He's not stuck in Indy.

DLO gets to have zero pressure and expectations. He can run it up while they continue the tank. If he likes the fit, he can stick around another year there. Wizards needed guard contributions.

It's funny, Wizards saw the Hawks contemplating a Trae and AD pairing and was like, yeah... let's do that. Injuries are a huge concern, but if both can stay relatively healthy they'll fall into the play in. That's big for that team.

They're likely getting a top 5 pick in a loaded draft, their young core is solid and have defensive chops. That's what you need surrounding Trae.

In the past 8 years, they've made it to the first round twice. Not every team is vying for a 'ship.

Washington already has a couple of very interesting young players (I really like Sarr, and I think he can play with AD), but more importantly, they haven't completed the picture yet because the final piece will come in the next draft.

If AD can guarantee at least 50 games in the next draft, a team composed of him, Trae, Sarr, George, Tre, Coulibaly, and one of the upcoming big names in the draft is a team that can certainly make the playoffs in the East.
