Oof… that’s brutal —the full team collapse while Luka’s out there playing god mode. That’s when you just sit on the couch like, “what am I even watching right now?”

You can tell he’s locked in, giving everything, and the others look like they’re just waiting for the postgame meal.

If this keeps up, I wouldn’t be surprised if Luka starts yelling at his own teammates between plays. It’s Cup time, not preseason jogs. You think Ham will even adjust, or just let Luka burn himself out again?

I found myself wondering if all these other guys on the team might play better under Reaves? Not really sure this is the case, but I did find myself pondering it. Personally, I would like to see a team concept that had AR and Luka sharing the scoring load a bit more. We want him to have the confidence going into the playoffs. AR really ran this team great without Luka, sure makes you pause. I think AR may care about the other players more than any average superstars, who are often a bit more privileged. I think AR is better than he was last year and is more capable than we had planned for. We need to use him correctly.

 

Guys can definitely get too passive when you have a player of Luka’s caliber out there.

 

I do think Reaves just wanted a bit of an easier night tonight. It’s not easy having to carry the whole offense for 3 games, the teams a little exhausted and rightfully so Hayes, Smart and Luka took more minutes tonight.

Moving forward I agree with you, we have to figure out how to keep Reaves aggressive even with Luka and Lebron in the starting lineup. He’s too good offensively to not demand more usage.

 

I’d love to bring back Lonzo off the bench. When he’s healthy he is just a perfect role player - top tier playmaker, great shooter and defender. An ideal team if Adou develops would be:

Ellis / Ball
Reaves / LaRavia
Luka / Vando
Adou / Rui
Ayton / Hayes

 

Reaves definitely looks for his teammates more than Luka. Luka seems to pass to others mostly after he decides he doesn’t want to shoot. JJ has his work cut out for him because Austin was playing at MVP level.

i think luka takes what the defense gives him. occasionally he'll force one or heat check, but you don't average 9-10 assists every year if you're purely shot hunting. for example, golden state's game plan was specifically to take away his passing by forcing the drive, then packing the paint. he took the midrange they were giving him and made a bunch, but the strategy generally worked bc nobody else got going at all.

i also wonder if jj/luka are trying to establish him as a 40 point nightly threat early to try to rattle some teams from trying this strategy. if we were better defensively behind him, you'd see teams getting buried in the first half by scoring avalanches from him when they dare him to take all the shots. teams are getting away with it now because we're a bad defensive team.

 

Portland won games vs Lakers, GSW and today vs Denver and Lakers again play them on back to back.

 

Austin has shown he is a superstar level player. Fortunately for the Lakers, to this point, he has also shown himself to be the ultimate team player. I think Luka and AR will figure it out fairly quickly. I am in no hurry to see LeBron back as his season shrinks with each game adding to possible playoff health. As good as our team is now we could really explode with the right version of LeBron. Conversely, we could implode with the wrong version. JJ will be tested. LeBron has always done what he wanted and was great enough it worked out much of the time. Obviously, even at this age LeBron brings a lot to the table but for this team to be its best he is going to have to accept certain things he may not like. Fine wine or vinegar? We shall see.

I think Ayton pounding Holmgren inside is the difference. Holmgrens to light. He’ll give Ayton his 15 also. But I just think that’s too much. Wino you’re onto something. Players were playing better with Reaves. Look at Laravia look at Ayton. And look at Kinect.

Reaves is a team player and all his teammates love him. He’s not a selfish player and always makes the basketball play.

Reddick is going to have to maximize this and have them stay away from each other for stretches and let Reaves run the team some when Lukas on the bench.

 

Definitely want to see Luka get more guys involved as opposed to the one man show too much of the time up the floor if he wants them hitting shots when he does pass it. For instance Knecht who's been uptrending lately doing more than just shoot 3s, while finally starting to hit some. He would be huge for us if he got his shooter's mojo back mentally. I don't "think" I saw Luka hit him once when he was open, as opposed to how AR was more involving the other guys while he was also shouldering the scoring load. All the b******* over the years about LeBron playing that same way. Hard to argue with the win though and with Luka just dominating. Just want to see more variety in the offense than trading off ISO plays with the 3 of them when James comes pack and everything being P&R. Come on JJ. With the caveat I get it that it's Luka's team now and the organization will bend over backwards to make sure he has what he wants to play the game the way he wants.
