Despite my criticisms over the years I do tip my hat to the Buss family. So much success over the years and literally behind most of our fandom.
I also credit Jeannie for taking a hard look at the reality of what it will take to compete in the league and realizing that not only was it was a good time to sell the team but making sure it ended up in good hands.

is the contention that our current gm doesn't use analytics? sorry; the hero worship of gms that work elsewhere is weird to me. like, none of them are actually more successful than rob--the guy everyone hates.

i've already devoted a lot of time to this, but the mythical gm that never makes mistakes and just churns out titles doesn't exist. he's not out there. for any amount of money. and morey CERTAINLY ain't it.

i agree with you but not with the post you agreed with. rob's not getting "cover". he was powersharing for most of our worst moves. the ones he owns are caruso and russ. i can excuse russ, and we've discussed both ad nauseum. but all the gms people want have their own carusos and russes of varying degrees. every single one has multiple JHS drafts, too (watch the thunder have to cut their lotto pick from a couple years ago this summer, btw).

again, i don't care if rob gets fired. if the new guys think they've got a full management team they can poach, fine, i'm down. i just don't think rob has been the root of our problems at all. not spending as much as some rivals and the age and injury status of our stars have been our main issues during the rob tenure.

as you said, we've got luka now, and he'll be judged on how he navigates the transition from lebron to luka, which, btw, is MUCH trickier than i think people are giving it credit for. like, if i were sam presti, i'm not coming here until the lebron situation is resolved. that's touchy territory in which there aren't great answers. like, your aspirant shark gm wouldn't offer lebron a contract that extends past this season, for example. it's the smart, analytic play!

I stated Andrew Friedman in baseball circles Friedman was Sam Presti when Mark Watters bought the Dodgers fans wanted Friedman.

Same blueprint OKC is small market. They can’t compete. Clay Bennett won’t pay that. I guarantee it.

he’s as cheap as Sterling. They will have to make a decision on Jaylin Williams and Holmgren.

I think Presti would gladly accept what we offer and Mark Watters will pay it. Just like Friedman. Presti is the analytics guy scout.

Masai is an incredible scout. Cut his teeth on scouting. Come on now Pascal Scottie Barnes???? Nobody was talking about Scottie Barnes as a star coming out of Florida State. This is after the Kawaii run. The guy knows players.

look at OG when he came to Toronto the guy couldn’t shoot. He was project of project now he’s one of the top 3 and Ds in the league. Masai is incredible with the player development.

I would love for Masai to come here. To me. It’s Sam Presti and Masai. If you want to talk pure scouting.

Now you give Massai Money with his scouting and he can bring all of his scouts and staff. Now you’re cooking with hot grease.

Just stay with me. Masai and Gianis. We got alot to play with.

Bob Myers is nice sitting in the booth. I know he wants the job. So Rob’s got guys chomping at him. That’s no secret. Start winning.

he left the FO. he'll always be around the team in one way or another, but just as long as one of those ways isn't being involved in roster construction

yes, the lakers weren't going to keep zubac past 18-19. but that's still no excuse for trading him to a division rival for pennies

just a terrible trade every way you look at it

he's mostly been winning more than these guys...this is my point--the bar is so much higher here that it distorts comparisons.

like, toronto hasn't been good in a while--since the ring, they've won 27, 48, 41, 25, and 30 games. we'd be calling for his head.

I think Rob will get a shot but he’ll have a short leash. Walter may already have his sights on someone like he did with Friedman. Coletti got a couple years but then the boot. Worked out great for the Dodgers.

Overall I’m excited for the new Lakers era. I’ve always applauded Jeanie for the job she did after taking over. She got us back to winning ways after Jimbo stumbled. But the time is right to step things up with Luka here as the new face of the franchise.

I don't see Rob going anywhere in the short term. A key difference between this ownership change and other ownership changes is that our new guy is already experienced in sports ownership. I don't think he's going to come in and clean house for the sake of demonstrating there's a new sheriff in town. Rob has done fine.

The part that doesn't seem tenable is Rob being the GM and also running basketball operations. I think they eventually bring in an assistant GM that takes over some of the nitty-gritty GM stuff, while Rob still has final say on transactions.

Well Luka has spoken and says he looks forward to winning championships with Jeanie Buss and Mark Walter’s.

that’s good. Cause our franchise guy is happy. We should get this deal done by this summer.

and I’m happy probably looking at the 4 yr. 229 million for Luka.

once that’s set we good. But just looking at the landscape. You can tell the leagues on notice. The league is shook. It feels great knowing your franchise is run with top resources.

as for Masai he hasn’t won cause he hasn’t had that support had to ship OG out. That doesn’t happen here. He gets all the support. That’s what goes on with Andrew Friedman.

and I know we have second apron but I think we’ll be okay.

just looking at things you can assure Austin will be here also.

The only issues I had with Jeanie is the penny pinching on everything sans the player contracts and the nepo hires in the FO. I don’t even blame her that much for hiring Magic into a position he was unqualified for because they literally grew up together and he was the face of the Lakers for so many years.
I look forward to an owner who will finally be able to compete with the rest of the billionaire boys club.

i'm hoping this happens, like, tomorrow. big offer to someone who's done good work as an assistant gm around the league. who's tim connelly's assistant?

    luka released a statement:

the haters on the radio were like...we still don't know what he's going to do; of course he'll say that.

uh, no. he could have very easily said nothing. as it stands, the article about this frames it as his "breaking his silence" as if he was supposed to hold a press conference immediately upon learning of the deal, lol.
