Allen and Lavert for Ingram would work nicely

i don't think gilbert is still mad at lebron. probably more a case of not wanting to be seen as helping the lakers out

or just not wanting to help the lakers out. when you trade the superstar, you lose. so the other team definitely wins. and these people don't invest their money in pro sports ownership without some pride/competitive spirit.

the lakers are the franchise everyone wants to bring down.

The problem for owners is players are like anyone else and want to play where they want to play.
Warm weather, big city amenities are just going to be more attractive to a lot more people (in this case players) and California still has a huge population so that it will the home state for a lot of folks.

This is a big reason teams just don't want to play with Miami and LAL and the Knicks may not be far behind. You can't really counter this advantage no matter how good your organization is.

yeah, they have to live with it, but they don't have to grease the wheels.

still think the funniest thing about the cp3 veto was that he still went to la, for less than what we were trading. and you can trace the clippers' legitimacy as a franchise back to that intervention. joke's on the small markets (as always): you just created another big market to swallow up your chances!

the system is built for people to operate as good faith actors for their own teams' fortunes. when they don't, things go wrong. attempts to subvert often end up backfiring.

anyway, we have been and will be public enemy #1, maybe forever. or at least until the shaq/kobe years become as distant as the showtime years are now? and the challenge for our FO is how to keep the shine on the brand during the years between.

i believe it, 100%. seems like a huge a**. if we let dlo walk, we'll be lucky if he'll come on a vet min, though. i rooted for malone and beverley (sort of in each case), i can do it again.

The problem with my thesis is that the obvious counter to this is you put more teams (ala European soccer) into the big market but outside of England which has a bunch of premier leagues teams this doesn't seem to work well either. This is basically across all sports but one team ends up defining a city (except again London and maybe the Manchester teams)
    Giants >> Jets
    Yankees >> Mets
    Dodgers >> Angels
    Lakers >>> Clips
    Knicks >>> Nets
    Real Madrid >>> Atletico
    Bayern Munich
    PSG
    FC Barcelona
Man United >> City (this doesnt' work currently but if Man gets good again I doubt this doesn't flip quickly)

If we do hire JJ, I think CP is in play in either scenario of DLO walking or us sending Gabe out in a trade. I posted the recap of JJ's recent pod appearance where he says how close they are, I didn't realize that. Between JJ + Bron, that's a lot of draw. Unless someone throws money at him, like SA to babysit and mentor (Pincus mentioned that scenario in the pod I just posted the link to), I don't think he'll have a lot of better opportunities. It could really help JJ in his first year bridge that gap because I'm sure a portion of his playbook will be stuff they ran with the Clipps or elements of it.

    Gross!
Too much Clipper stink on the Lakers.
I won’t like it at all if CPDirty winds up here. I dislike him more than BevMo, more than anyone I can think of right now. Well, maybe I dislike J. Murray more after his recent antics.
Nah, CPDirty is still at the top of the list.

LeBron is still here. Do we want to trade for Randle, knowing he wanted out as soon as he knew LeBron was on the way?

the veto was all part of stern's plan to make the hornets more attractive to potential buyers. with the players they would've acquired in the original deal, hornets would've still been a 7-8 seed caliber team. what's more attractive: a middling playoff team that wouldn't be bad enough to net a lottery pick? or a team with a #1 overall pick to use in a draft with a superstar caliber big man?

and of course, the hornets ended up with the #1 pick that year

    stern was a goddamn snake
