Damn. That (option 2) definitely gives them a leg up if he wants the cash over winning.

Please stop throwing THT into trades like he’s some after thought or filler. I think it would be a big mistake to trade him.

Was reading Knicks fans elsewhere and they were overwhelmingly upset to hear themselves linked to Drummond. Most of them felt it would be a big mistake to give up assets for Drummond, yet alone sign him to an expensive long term deal. They like Mitchell Robinson and Nerlens Noel.

Which I get. As much as I want Drummond for the Lakers, considering our front court needs and the bargain we’d be getting him for, if I was in the Knicks situation trading for Drummond to lock him up at 4/64 would be a pretty poor move.

And the Knicks fans were citing this guy as a reason to not buy into these rumors, felt the report was probably being floated by Cleveland in a desperate attempt to try to get one of the other contenders to trade for Drummond.

Why would the Knicks want Drummond? Mitchell and Nerlins have been amazing for the Knicks. Mitchell averages near 30 minutes per game and provides exactly what they need. How many minutes would Drummond even get for the Knicks? I can't imagine he'd be happy about playing there.

Lakers likely will keep AD, Bron, Kuz, THT, and Dudley. I think everyone else is up for grabs.

You can’t really ask why when it comes to the Knicks. If anyone could answer that about them with any certainty their last title might not be in 1973, coming up on 50 years. They’re run by a moron, and even when he puts seemingly competent people in charge they still answer to him. I don’t see why they’d want Drummond, you don’t see why, but they are dumb. Why would they want to sign like 8 power forwards 2 off-seasons ago? Because they’re the Knicks.

its a little worrying in terms of possible chemistry issues that so many of these trade scenarios would mean starting over with over half of a new lineup.

dont think it would be good for the team to basically start over two months from the playoffs.

Down for Lowry if we can get Powell as well. Powell is hugely underrated. Been sniping this season. Gonna opt out after this season for the payday so we'd get his all.

I am not comfortable with Lowry, he used to choke in the playoffs pretty spectacularly, one good championship run doesn't change that. I still expect us not to make any trades and add someone from the buyout market, but we'll see.

yeah, these were my thoughts. the rumors hurt our team, and none of what's been discussed seems rob-like.

i do think that negotiations with schroder haven't gone well, so i wouldn't be shocked if he were moved today.

yep. drummond to the knicks didn't smell right to me. felt like old knicks--it seems like they're turning a corner a bit in terms of reigning in the FO stupidity. put it this way: i don't think thibs wants drummond, and he has a lot of say in personnel right now, right?

true, but he's an upgrade on schroder overall, and if we think we might have to lose DS anyway, might as well get a vet with serious experience.

Not sure I agree on the overall upgrade on Schröder, but I see your point. Could probably argue both ways.

If we can't agree on the extension with Dennis because he wants a huge amount of money, I'm fine with letting him go and maybe even with this trade. My bigger concern is the long term construction of the team. It worries me that we may lose both him and Harrell in the offseason with very limited options for improving the team. As long as Bron and AD get back to 100% we should be able to attract some good vets on cheap contracts, but we need some younger players as well. Hopefully we don't trade AC or THT and can agree to extend both on reasonable terms.

All that being said, I trust in Pelinka, he's earned it. The coming hours and days should be very entertaining, hopefully we get some good news soon.

i think the only argument is age, really--lowry outperforms schroder in basically all measurables, even now as he's declining. for this year and next, it's likely lowry is the better player. the question is how you're planning the roster, as you indicate:

i think it's possible that moving DS (and kcp) is evidence that we're trying to keep AC and THT. both of those guys will want longer-term deals (and should), so we need some shorter deals to mix in and keep flexibility, imo.
