During the game tonight the ESPN bottom line said "In 2007 the Lakers offered Kobe for LeBron, which is the only offer any team has ever given for LeBron." What were they trying to say? That the Lakers thought LeBron was better than Kobe?
Generally speaking comparing players in different eras and different positions is already a tough task ... then there is an argument which is rarely used : only fans of the game who watched ALL players "live/in their time" ( i.e not decades later on youtube or wherever) could make a list ... I highly doubt most of "these experts" were old enough to watch Wilt and Bill in the 60es ...
You could add Shaq on Kobe side and replace Lebron with Steve Crap ... The picture would say 2-2 , how ridiculous ....
That is why I don't get worked up over lists like these. I personally disagree with putting Lebron at #3 but again, it's hard to rate players over different eras and different levels of competition. I have my ideas on who the all time greats are, but I'm sure many people will disagree (I don't have Jordan at #1 for instance). Any lists like these will upset someone. When they did their point guard list, I thought it was nuts to put Steph Curry and John Stockton ahead of Isaiah Thomas, but hey, it fuels what we love to do on this board and that is debate sports.
Prone and face down on the floor against Indy, Bird willed himself from a bad back in the playoffs to carry his team to a win. Cramping up, James had to be carried by handlers to the bench and made sure the cameras were on him. Bird scared the crap out of defenders and opposing arenas when he had the ball. James? Not so much.
Bird wasn't afraid to get in the post. He was clutch. He was deadly from the 3. These are areas Lebron lacks.
I'd like to know how the #3 greatest player of all time isn't even the best player in the NBA anymore in his 13th season, and arguably last year either. Curry > LeBron currently. Kobe in his 13th season was MVP, still the best, and about to go to 3 Finals in a row. IMO he remained the best player in the NBA almost up until he injured his achilles. But sure, LeBron is 3rd all time. LeBron is also shooting worse from 3 than old man, practically a fossil Kobe. Bulls***.
1. Kareem 2. mj 3. magic 4. wilt 5. Kobe 6. Bird 7. Oscar 8-14 any order. shaq, Russell. Duncan, dream, Barkley, Isaiah 15. LeBron 16+ Robinson, ewing, Dr j, pistol Pete, etc
Regarding the ESPN top 100 list, I heard who the panel was yesterday. 5 people. The oldest was 46. Adande is 45. Two people in their 30s. And one person was 27. That explains it all. The oldest is my age. I started watching when I was 10. I never saw Wilt, Russell, Oscar, Elgin, West, etc etc etc. The majority of this panel didn't even see Magic and Bird, Kareem or Dr J. As we all know, this list is a joke. Right down to the panel and the rankings.
Rumor for now but Cavs looking for 3-way deal involving Love to the C's, Melo to the Cavs, Knicks picks http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/240783/Cavs-C Bags-Have-Discussed-Kevin-Love-Trade How much help does the King need????
5 people? That was the panel? For some reason I thought it was some huge group of writers across all ESPN cities. Lol, no wonder the list is so bad, what a joke.
How much? A lot. In Miami it took Wade, Bosh, and one season a bail out Ray Allen 3 for him to not go 1-3 in the Finals. I don't see how Melo helps Cleveland though, does LeBron play PF? Does Melo? Does one of them play SG? There's only one ball, Melo loves to shoot, and his game is already starting to drop off. Averaging 21 PPG this season, not shooting a great percentage from 3.
I sincerely sincerely doubt Carmelo gets traded or accepts a trade. Especially to a city like Cleveland. That man is not about winning.
Replacing Love with Melo doesn't really help them, Melo doesn't play great defense and basketball is still played with one basketball.
if melo goes to cleveland, that means lebron will have played on the same team with 3 of the top 5 picks of the '03 draft
Kobe was the all time top scorer in allstar game history, leading Labronz by 2 points. He cold have retired holding the record, but what does this b**** Labronz do? He scores 3 more points than him in Kobe's final allstar game. I refuse to believe its a coincidence.
