Maybe the same medical staff that steered us away from that one center's knees gave us the what's up on Smart too. Dude may be breaking down. He essentially has a 1 year contract hoping he can shine and parlay it into more. But this may be his last two years getting paid if his body betrays him.
Really cheap contract. Even better than the reported 3/21. Pretty much on par with the PO he had, signaling we were really unwilling to give him any extra year. Doesn't seem like a... smart decision He will be very missed, was absolutely amazing for us. A culture setter and bringing the defensive intensity and competitiveness we severely lacked for years and is paramount to a championship contender
Guess Luka didn't like him.... except he did and recruited him. I guess a youth movement is what it is.
i mean, it's quite clear and not at all confusing what we're doing. whether it ends up being wise is yet to be seen.
So at this point, it's quite obvious Lakers are just letting them walk (Kennard+Smart) because none of this makes sense.
I'd say Grimes over Smart is something Luka was ok with and probably asked for. I don't like it, I can't see the downside of getting Smart in this contract, even better on top of Grimes.
Letting a guy like Smart go for 2 years 13 mil is extremely confusing to me. It was said we didn’t want to overpay him or give him too many years. This is neither one of those things. This is Rob STILL not valuing the things that don’t show up on the stat sheet that guys like Caruso, Goodwin, and Smart bring, and I’m more than tired of it.
