Goodwin is our version of Christian Braun. Lakers have to snag him for the cheap while they can. He's got potential to be a serviceable rotational player.
I really like his baseline level of competition. Fights for every rebound, every loose ball. Bron got him a couple big buckets late. JJ trusts him, playing him ahead of DK, Shake and Cam. This was a big game and he didn't flinch. He's steady in the moment, even in the 4th Q. More deserving of that roster spot than Shake or Cam. I'd drop Shake because if there's a wing injury and either of those two have to play, I trust Cam in spot minutes to defend more than I trust Shake to try to find an offensive rhythm in only one shift.
I like that he took responsibility for passing up a shot in the paint that he should have taken. Led to a shot clock violation due to that error. He admitted to the error and instead of shrinking the next time around. Drove to the basket which got his confidence up for the jumper
It's an interesting proposition. Shake gives us some handle and bucket getter but to get there, we need to be without 2 of Luka/Bron/AR and in that case we are already in a bad place. I think with our big 3 being offense-first, we should prioritize defense over offense with the rest of the squad. We also have Knecht when we need an offense burst
I don’t know how much it matters, as far if the Lakers would have to pay the full amount, but Shake is under contract for 2 more years after this one. That to me is why Cam would be a more likely buyout candidate. But yes, either way I’d give a real roster spot to Goodwin. He’s not the best shooter, but man his defense and energy are a big deal.
