What? The statement is pretty clear. He's been on the job for a few weeks, i.e. he's going to go through certain things as he learns to be a coach and that should be expected.
sure do, so again "what growth"? Growing pains mean we'll go thru bad stretches but showing improvement, this is opposite, they're getting worse
Russ and Lonnie have shown significant improvements under him and the team plays with much more effort than they did last season. The issue is talent as it always has been.
Well Magic's not here to scream at him within earshot of the whole complex so maybe Kurt will take on that duty since he had no problem getting in Vogel's face in front of people. <<< semi sincere wink
He actually said the opposite, though. His quote was that the young guys, new guys on the roster need to step up. AD has been playing great D this year. He’s been disappearing in the second halves offensively lately which may be a combo of the team not getting him the ball and him not being aggressive enough but remember that a week or so ago he was clutching his back in pain every 5 minutes so he may just be still recovering from that. Also obviously Lebron got the nasty bug going around and is fighting that and a foot injury. Not making excuses for them but this is the reality, neither has been 100% thus far and each has a missed a game because of it and struggled through a few others. The reality is we did not do enough to build a roster around them this off-season. I think they will have to go all the way with Russ until the deadline to get a deal done. But they need to move Bev and Nunn in order to A. Get another good starting level player that fits a need such as center or shooting guard and B. To eliminate the redundancy at the position when Schroder returns. And C. Because they have both sucked so far.
AD has honestly been great for the most part but Lebron needs to be better. It'd suck if he's washed but I feel it's just his jump shot. Hopefully he starts hitting again.
The superstars aren't playing like superstars, whatever their reasons are. I still don't see this roster big issue, I see my two best players not clicking together yet. It's not because of the role players. I like a Bev/Nunn deal for Turner. If the two main guys were playing the way they should be, we wouldn't be even having this discussion.
AD has been fine, even to the point of playing through the assorted aches and pains and body language that drives people here to always crucify him. He's been out there and barely missed any time and is getting after it. LeBron, for whatever reasons, even valid with the foot and the bug he's had .... is the one coming up short with his play and awful shooting aside from at the basket.
Like I said, I'm not in panic mode yet. Yeah Lebron is sucking right now. Yet AD needs to step it up too. I'm talking for the season, not these first few games. I don't expect both to play like this all season. If they do, it isn't because of the role players.
That quote is depressing, Jeanie needs to sell if that’s her main focus. She said in the Legacy doc that she had to fire Jim because he was tarnishing the Lakers brand or like her father’s legacy when we weren’t competitive. What is she doing then? Who will hold her accountable? Also, according to this article, this is the second time Ham has brought up repeater tax this season
And they better step up quick. We go much longer there won't be much need to shuffle the deck unless we are just getting ready for next season.
It's obvious: we committed a lot of money are they are not performing at that level. Additionally, we have a bunch of guys (some of them are good players) who don't fit at all or are deep bench players at best.
This time last year the Lakers record was 6-5. Currently 2-8. Russ on his contract year, also his career is in jeopardy if he doesnt perform. Of course they have more energy this year, they are much younger than last year roster. The truth is this front office sucks. Hired a rookie coach and got energy players without much talent. This might be the Luke Walton experiment all over again.
Yeah. The repeater tax comments are interesting. Makes me think there is at least some truth to the thought that we passed on deals for guys with longer contracts.
it's weird to me because there are deals we could make wherein we get some quicker salary relief and take on some salary in ways that could get us under the tax, right? and it's still weird to me that this is how ham chose to answer a question that wasn't really about this topic. he was asked about his job, not the front office's. his job is to get more out of the guys on the floor.
My guess is Rob sold him the same false bill of goods he sold us, that he's not done and will address xy&z on the roster and hasn't. Ham is probably rightfully frustrated and after having to be the only one answering Russ questions since training camp, because Rob it's a coward and hides from the press, I can't say I blame him for putting it back on the front office.
