weird response. sorry, i could kick bob cousy's a** when i was 18. jj redick could have led the league in scoring in 1960. west basically acknowledges it to start, and he could have just stopped there, saying "we played against who was there at the time". no problem. they kicked a** back then. the game is different now.

saying redick was a role player is a separate point. the main point is that the role players in the 60s wouldn't make jv teams now.

 

JJ is a douche for saying that . He should just stay in his own lane . This is like smoosh Parker dissing Kobe . Unless JJ is looking for some post NBA podcast career, he should just chill . JJ reddick is a nobody

wilt is the only all-time great player from back then who would probably still dominate today because he was a freakishly incredible athlete

i think there are a few others (russell, for sure) who could play now and be effective, too. but not very many. and it's not really an insult. jerry west was great back then. what does it matter what he would be now?

 

Not at you 432J but give some of those greatest players like West and Baylor and others who could shoot access to the same knowledge of skills additionally required today such as handles, and a year or two of access to modern training methods and they would probably be pretty good today as well. Now, "dominate" I guess is something else as it would take probably more than a couple years access to those methods for the skills and physical development to be on par with players that have grown up with it.

West would be great today, he had a very quick shot and was extremely mobile. Anyone who thinks otherwise, didn't see him play much.

 

he was a 6'3" sg. he would be small-ish for a modern nba pg. jj redick is 6'4", had an incredibly quick shot and was extremely mobile.

 

Not anywhere close to being as good as West! West was a tenacious defender too. Did you ever watch him play? Dude was a great competitor. In Kobe's mold.

 

not really; just various highlights. i wasn't born. but again, the larger point is that athletically, he couldn't compete now. that was redick's point, too (though he wasn't referring directly to west, i don't think). and it's accurate. that's why i brought up cousy as another example. he's a college backup at best in the modern game. at best.

transport austin reaves back to 1963 and drop him in an nba uniform. think about what that would look like. superstar, imo.

why do i keep going to white guys? oscar robertson. who's he now? he was sort of lebron-ish then, but he's more prime adrian griffin-ish now, imo.

yeah, we've been over this, but he and the press frame the issue in a weird way, imo.

they've outspent everyone to the tune of a quasi-dynasty, and the complaint is that further outspending everyone is...more expensive?

 

Do the older generation get modern training etc? Or are we just dumping them?

 

Yeah same thing I said above, albeit for the best of the older gentlemen who just need to have presented what current skills are and they too can palm the ball and have a year or two with modern strength training, nutrition and instructors.
