Kobe was by far the best player in the game. Pau was argurably the best big man followed by the best sixth man in Lamar, followed by Bynum and Artest and Fisher. If that's weak I'll take that all day.
Sure, we'd all take a Champion Laker squad, but asking Fisher to guard Curry or Klay is a bit much. I seriously doubt we'd beat them. They just have too many weapons, despite us having a clear advantage with Kobe and Pau.
I don't see why not. Kobe could guard either Klay or Steph whichever one we put him on. Who's guarding Pau? They don't really have an answer for Drew or Lamar either. They really don't have anyone that can even slow Kobe down. I don't see how we don't beat them in that matchup.
How many times did you see Pau, Bynum, and Odom in the game at the same time ? Bogut can slow them down. Of they can go small ball. Draymond would give Odom problems. Artest would do good against Barnes, but Barnes isn't a real problem, so Artests impact is neutralized a bit. Yes, Kobe can guard Klay all day and he could switch to Curry at times. But again, Fisher has to guard someone. That someone is gonna destroy him. And I know defense is a "team" game, but they'd exploit Fisher, IMO. But as others have said, it'll never happen. Fun to argue over a beer or on the internet though. I still say Showtime or 00/01/02 Lakers would beat them, but 09? Nope.
It is fun speculating about these mythical match-ups. Didn't that 09-10 team defeat a Phoenix team that was somewhat similar? Not as good defensively mind you but it had firepower too. Nash, Richardson, Hill, Stoudemire, Barbosa, Frye, Dragic... 24 was just brilliant in that series plus we wore Phoenix down with our inside game. Him against Iguadala would have been a must-watch tilt. Agree though that the Warrior speed, superb outside shooting and ability to defend on cross matches would provide problems all over the court. Yes, Fisher would be toast in every defensive sequence... That Laker team though had a very good bench outside of Odom in Brown, Farmar and Vujacic...all of whom would probably have thrived playing against a team like Golden State. Tough call... OKC came close but the lack of discipline [and mental toughness] cost them given that they are comparable to that repeat champion Laker squad.
I'd say that 09/10 squad is on the same level right now. These Warriors lack the focus to take that team out and despite having a multitude of perimeter defenders to throw at Bean, he was just too locked in during that run. He was on another plane of existence in that Phoenix series. It's one of the more overlooked individual series in recent history. That series probably goes 6 or 7 and really depends on how much Pau can make them pay inside to compliment Kobe. But so far I don't have them above the 80s Lakers or C Bags, the 90s Bulls, or the 00s Lakers.
Just reading those names, I started thinking about them playing on this Warrior team. Man, Vujacic would've been a killer in this Warrior system. Farmar would've been a great backup and probably got a starting job ($$$) somewhere else. Odom and Brown would've been amazing in this fast flowing offense too.
2009 or 2010 Lakers: Warriors would win all regular season games but we would grind it out and win a 7 game series with them, because at the end of the day Odom, Pau and Bynum controlled the rim. Rebounding and protection, that's what matters in the playoffs. Most people forget that Phil effectively dismantled the-oh-so-glorious D'Antoni/Nash Suns 6 months before we got Pau. Phil basically ended his run as an elite coach while playing Bynum at center. Then they traded for Shaq and the rest is history. Showtime Lakers: 80's refs? GSW stands no chance. At all. Over in 5
