Agreed with us not needing that, but also like I said about this is the NBA news thread, the culture of the Sixers probably isn't helping. No excuse for not being able to hold back from punching people. As a pro athlete/famous person, you have to even more than regular people, but he might be depressed/pushed over the edge by going from the NCAA champs and coach K's culture to the Sixers and their garbage culture. They want to lose, they're all about it, and they don't surrounded their youth with vets to help situations like this, it's pretty much kids running the show.

What that team needs are a couple vets but what vet in their right mind will want to go play there.

I still wish we had him eventhough I have accepted Russ for better or worse. Okafor was a winner until we passed on him and let him fall to the Sixers. The culture there is just much worse than ours. We just suck on court.

I'm afraid of our culture, honestly. When you get to losing, you get to doing stupid s***. We need to turn this around quickly.

We still have trophies and retired jerseys of hall of famers to show kids. Having Byron screw up on court doesn't mean Worthy, Kareem, Magic, and others are not there to talk to these young players. Tradition counts.

pre draft, when I wanted okafor, one thing that concerned me was his character. I knew he was a duke guy, and coach k vouched for him and all, but something seemed off. one red flag was his dad. he was always around and seemed like kind of a problem. and in interviews, okafor was pretty unimpressive (and my bar is pretty low for 19 year olds here). compare him to towns, Russell or porzingis--he just wasn't thoughtful or charismatic in any way.

when I heard the lakers passed on him largely because he dragged a** through workouts, that was enough for me. even though he looks as good as I suspected early on, I'm thinking the core issues probably won't ever go away.

all that said, I know there are lots of things that can happen to provoke an incident like this. I'm just aggregating the evidence.

Minny has KG and Andre Miller, we have Kobe and MWP, NY has Melo, ORL has Frye and Watson, Kings have Caron and Gay, Pistons have Blake and Joel Anthony, Miami has Wade and Bosh, Nuggets have Nelson and Michelle Miller, and Hornets have Big Al and Marvin Williams.

Landry is the only player the 6ers have on the roster born in the 80s. All the other teams above, who all picked in the top 10, either have a strong veteran presence from at least one leader or have a stable culture in place for their young players.

    Philly is an embarrassment

I don't condone violence and an NBA player should never, ever get involved in one of these off court physical confrontations. Okafor's just a 19 year old kid and he was acting like one. Not smart. But Beantown is notoriously full of jerks like this who try to cause fights. Got to be smarter than this Jahlil. I guess he'll have to learn the hard way.

Remember what happened to Paul Pierce?

C Bags Forward Paul Pierce Stabbed
    • By JUSTIN POPE
    B O S T O N, Sept. 25

Paul Pierce of the Boston C Bags was stabbed in the face, neck and back while in the pool room of a nightclub early today and was listed in fair condition.

The 22-year-old player underwent surgery, Boston radio station WEEI-AM said, quoting an unidentified hospital source. New England Medical Center would not release information except to list his condition.

“He’s doing fine. We’re all hoping for a speedy recovery,” said C Bags head coach Rick Pitino, speaking briefly to reporters as he left the hospital today.

Pierce was stabbed at about 1 a.m. while at a private event at the Buzz Club in the city’s theater district, police spokeswoman Mariellen Burns said.

She added that he apparently was with several friends, including at least one teammate she did not identify. The friends drove Pierce to the hospital.

    No Arrests Made

Police said they were investigating witness reports that the fight involved people connected to the local rap group Made Men. There were no immediate arrests.

“We’re not sure what the altercation was about,” Burns said. “We’re not even sure Mr. Pierce and his friends were involved in what this altercation was about.”

Former C Bags star and coach Tommy Heinsohn said Pierce had been wearing a leather jacket, which helped protect him. Burns said she could not confirm that information.

The nightclub, which operates under different names at different times of the week, would be cited for allowing an assault and battery on its premises, Burns said. She said there have been several other violations, including at least two assaults, at the club in the past year.

Pierce was to report for the start of training camp next Monday. He apparently was in Massachusetts to participate in Red Auerbach’s charity golf tournament, which was being held today in Salem.

“He was very lucky,” said K.C. Jones, a former C Bags standout and coach. “He had the angels on his side.”

    Cornerstone of C Bags Team

Pierce, 6-foot-7 and 220 pounds, averaged 19.5 points for the C Bags last season. He ranks second in the NBA in steals per game with 2.08.

Pierce, Boston’s most complete player, played forward and guard last season. He is the cornerstone of a team trying to break a streak of five seasons without making the playoffs.

He is one of the few mainstays on a team that has undergone considerable change since Pitino became coach before the 1997-98 season. Pierce is an outstanding defender and aggressive rebounder with good shooting range.

Pierce, an All-American at Kansas, was drafted in the first round in 1998 after his junior season.

As a rookie, he was 10th in NBA three-point field goal percentage and averaged 16.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.71 steals in 34 minutes a game.

Last season, his 19.5 points and 35.4 minutes per game were both second on the team, trailing Antoine Walker. He was second in the NBA in steals per game with 2.08.

First of all: that dude went down like Frazier. Holy crap he was out cold.

Second of all: guess what Jahlil? These guys are everywhere for the rest of your life. Their lives aren't like yours. Be thankful for what you have and walk away.

Third of all: I wanted him before the draft and I'm still comfortable with that. When the Lakers passed it sucked, but I have fully embraced D'Angelo now. I'm glad we're not putting our rookie in situations where he'll get in big trouble like this.

I know he's just a 19 year old kid but Jahlil has to be smarter then this. There will always be fans talking trash. He can't let this kind of stuff get to him.

Jahlil Okafor's apparent street fight is more proof of 76ers' flawed rebuilding plan

FWIW -- Pierce was stabbed by Benzino, co-owner of The Source magazine. He was mad at PP for cheating on his sister. While PP knew not to snitch, Benzino used the incident to up his street cred.

Jah needs to show his teammates how to find that same fight and channel it into the game of basketball.

I keep looking for the damn punch. What is the time stamp in the "Knockout" clip or other one? I just see him push a guy back like a 2 handed chest pass right at the start, then everyone gets on him. :p

Damn this kid is going down the wrong path. Makes you wonder how much stuff that isn't being reported is out there and if the Lakers knew all of it.

Yup looks like a complete douche and that's probably the reason why the FO passed on him.
