I am so grateful for everything LeBron James did for the Lakers. When he came to LA in, no one else wanted to touch this franchise after years of missing the playoffs. He completely changed the culture and delivered us our 17th championship. But this had to happen. It was time for him to go. It’s officially Luka's time now. He needs to be the clear, undisputed leader of this team moving forward. The front office made the right call to start pivoting away from aging stars and completely rebuild around Luka and Austin. I'm actually kind of relieved in a way. I am incredibly excited to see what we can build around our younger core. However: I really hope the front office has a solid plan for the roster. We need to surround our guys with the right pieces, and we already lost Smart, which is a bummer.

pelinka simply cannot f*** this up like he did the lebron/AD era

luka's injury history makes for a short window, so they need to win in the next few years or it's not happening

Thanks for the 2020 championship. No thanks for convincing Rob to gut the championship roster and setting us back for years asset wise with the Westbrook trade. See ya! Good luck in the Bay Area!

This is the Dodgers people running the Lakers. It will be a process but a healthy process leads to sustainable long term success, no room for Lebron in this. Dodgers have been in the playoffs every year since 2013 and have been in the World series 5 of the last 9 years

Ding dong, the drama queen is gone.

And BTW... I think the Lakers knew, so letting AR walk was even less of an option.

I like this. A memo going out this quickly means we already knew at least for a day or 2 minimum, likely more.

Good farewell. Nice timing too as 1000 things will happen today all over the NBA so we'll have many other topics to talk about.

Also, for people jumping on Rob.... stop. You REALLY think that Rob, in the most crucial summer of his career, will make such a grand move and risk it all that he can replace whatever Bron still has? Hell no. It was, for sure, Walters and his minions.

i think rob was definitely on board. he didn't want to operate with lebron's whims hanging over his head.

i still think he's going to be fired soon, in part so that this can be attached to him and not the new people, lol.

i'd be surprised if this coming season wasn't make or break for rob. anything short of a deep playoff run and he's gone

Oh, he knew, I just am absolutely positive that it wasn't his decision (perhaps the idea was his), but Walters and them baseball cronies.

I kind of never felt like he was a Laker like other Laker Greats. Kind of just a hired mercenary after the money and glory, but wasn't really part of the Laker family.

I can buy this. Feels like the franchise has been ready to turn the page for several seasons if I’m being honest.
