JJ likes two things he can sometimes hit a 3, and he fights like hell when switched onto a big. For a switch heavy team that doesn't have a shutdown POA defender having a PG able to do that is valuable to some extent

That being said Gabes inability to score at the rim , off the dribble, rebound, get steals/loose balls, playmake s negating his positives awfully hard for most teams. That's why I think you have to give Thiero a trial as he could give you all that Gabe gives and some of this other stuff

Plus 1. Find a trade for this guy or let him keep that bench warm.

To make things worse, Prince is a perfectly reliable role player who ended up getting criticized simply because the coach doesn’t know how to use him properly.

That front of the Titanic super imposition of Darvin and Taurean was the BEST.

    :Kobe Snickering:

They're tearing it up this year together too. ;)

He just doesn’t do much out there other than try not to make mistakes. Like he doesn’t get to the hoop for layups, he doesn’t drive and kick, he doesn’t even really probe. He just stands in the corner. And I get that’s maybe what he’s instructed to do, but at his salary slot, for what our bench needs, it’s just not good enough. He’s never really felt like a Laker to me, always like he’s about to be traded, must be difficult for him I’m sure, but I look forward to finally moving on from him at some point.

His first two buckets at the rim came on this road trip. That's insane.

He had a couple solid screen navigation/ defensive plays last night but he's not worth the role or salary he's occupying.

    +1

I mean even if he's told to stay in the corner - JJ is not telling him no you absolutely cannot take advantage of an open lane, shift away from you. He just doesn't bring anything other than occasional 3's and stays tough on switches.

I love how many boards Reaves gets just anticipating where the ball is going or Smart suddenly is on the ground fighting for a loose ball. Vincent is like the opposite of that - whenever there is a loose ball or a 50-50 ball, you know Gabe will not be anywhere near it. There is no intangible benefits to playing him.

If we’re trying to get something for him and his expiring contract at the deadline rather than just losing his mid level spot for nothing end of season it makes sense to not just kill his value completely by not playing him. Same thing with Maxi.

i actually disagree here. the only reason to play them is if you hope to keep them, imo--or if they're helping you win right now. gabe's really not doing that (maxi in spurts at best). even if they play well, their trade value is still only as expiring money. nobody's trading for these guys (and giving up what we'd want in return) because they believe they're going to help them win, imo.

so yeah, if it were my choice, gabe's minutes are going to nick smith until smith proves he shouldn't be getting them--because he's already demonstrated that he should.

I agree. I think this idea that guys' trade value fluctuates significantly during the season isn't really true. Playing Gabe and Maxi 20 minutes a night or zero minutes a night isn't going to change anything, like you said. They're being acquired as expiring salary. Even if they played really well between now and the deadline, that's 8 weeks of data compared to their entire careers at this point. They are what they are. Same thing with Dalton. He is what he is - a 25 year old with some interesting offensive potential but a long way to go between the ears and defensively. JJ playing him 15 minutes a night during which he probably just confirms that assessment doesn't change anything.
