Lebron is quoting a Jay Z lyric here. I think it’s not so much about the lakers but more so him trying to build his ego up about everyone writing him off at 41.

The truth is you’re 41 dude, it’s never going to be a glamorous exit from one of the greatest to retiring.

lebron's never played second fiddle on a team. this is new territory for him

but i don't think he's dumb enough to forget that the lakers will still exist when he's no longer on the team

my first question was what is he talking about? in context, you assume it's a continuation of his veiled gripes about falling from the top dog status.

maybe it's what svtzr said, and a general comment to "the haterz", but...who are they? who would be hurt by his disappearance? the general nba fan? they've already witnessed his best basketball, and his retirement will be welcomed by most of them. so the logical assumption is he's talking about lakers fans, and it's some sort of threat.

not sure what that changes; see carolina's comment above. why not quote jay z about continuing to rise or staying on top or quieting the naysayers or whatever? i'm sure he's got some. instead, the specific phrasing implying that "you'll miss me when i'm gone".

The song from Jay-z is What More Can I Say and I love that track. I don't really think he's trolling anyone as I definitely get the parallels between Jay-Z's rap career at the time of that song and where LeBron is approaching retirement.

I'll also add that my understanding is that Klutch is basically taking over an old Clippers practice facility to work out their clients and haven't switched the logos and stuff yet. Time will tell if that's true or not but I've seen a few plugged in guys post that so I think its likely legit.

It's also not uncommon for players to work out in other teams gyms period.

He's wearing Laker gear in half the photos he posted if that makes anyone feel better. lol.

Overall, another nothing sandwich for me during a slow news period.

Understood. But you don’t think a billionaire like Lebron wouldn’t have enough juice to get whoever currently owns it to put a new coat of paint on the walls to cover up the logo, while “negotiations” to buy the facility for Klutch are ongoing? Lebron is a smart man that knows marketing, and knew exactly what he was doing having that stank logo in the background behind him.

 

they don't own the facility and aren't in the process of buying it as far as i know. it's still owned by donald sterling last i checked and even after ballmer bought the clips, they were still paying sterling to use it

i really don't see any other reason why lebron would post that photo aside from just an attempt at trolling. do you think he's trying to tell the lakers that he wants to sign with the clips or something?

 

There are strong parallels, it’s from the Black album right? Right around the time Jay Z was arguably one of the top 5 biggest stars in Hip Hop with the most number 1 albums but was fading due to not being able to connect with the youth because of his age. Lots of people wanted him to ride off into the sunset and that song was a kind of “F you, I’m still the best.”

I can see Lebron having lots of those feelings, this is all he really knows and he probably feels like it’s him against the world - his wife wants him to retire, lakers aren’t giving him a new contract, fans are actively talking about what comes after, media is building up new faces of the league.
