Atlanta and Philadelphia are discussing a possible trade centered on Hawks guard Jeff Teague and 76ers center Nerlens Noel, league sources told The Vertical. The sides have discussed the deal recently, but an agreement isn’t imminent, sources said. For Philadelphia, there has been strong interest over the past year in acquiring a high-end starting point guard. The 76ers have the No. 1 overall pick in the June 23 NBA draft and will likely select Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram, but have a glut of talent in the frontcourt, including Noel, Jahlil Okafor, Joel Embiid and potentially Dario Saric. In his seventh NBA season with the Hawks, Teague averaged 15.7 points, 5.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 79 games. Atlanta had discussed possible deals at the trade deadline to break up its core of Teague, Al Horford and Paul Millsap, but elected to keep the team intact. The Hawks reached the Eastern Conference semifinals. Teague, 27, was selected to the All-Star team in 2015. Noel, an active athlete and shot-blocker at 6-foot-11, averaged 11.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks for Philadelphia this season. He was the No. 6 selection in the 2013 NBA draft by New Orleans and was acquired by the 76ers. There's been vocal opposition to the trade from both ends (on Twitter anyway). I've seen Philly fans who want more from Atlanta and Atlanta fans that want more from Philly. I think myself and other posters called this a while ago. Teague to Philly makes a ton of sense. He gives them an All-Star guard on an affordable contract while getting rid of one of their prospect big men. Atlanta gets potential Horford insurance too. I think it's a good deal.
Noel is not an NBA starter at this point. Teague is an All Star albeit in the East. Basically trading a proven player for potential.
makes sense. atl seems to think schroeder's their guy (i'm not so sure), and philly can't just roll with that unbalanced roster if they're truly done with hinkie's silliness. i do wonder whether this means anything regarding horford. i mean, they could roll with noel off the bench (perhaps where he belongs), but you'd hope moving your starting allstar pg would net a player you think is going to start. and moving millsap would be insane, imo.
Completely 100% agreed on Schroeder. I've never seen the potential honestly. He looks like a worse Rondo. Does that fit in today's NBA? And I agree Noel isn't worth Teague to me. I'd hope for more if I'm Atlanta, maybe some of their picks. As for Horford, I really am starting to hope the Lakers make that call. I know he's older, but he provides a lot of what the offense needs and a good veteran presence. I'm not sure how many teams around the NBA are vying for his services. I'd assume a lot, but I haven't heard much for whatever reason.
big issue with horford is that he doesn't want to play center. i don't blame him, but i think a lot of interested teams would want him at that spot.
Well he pretty much played Center all season with Millsap. I know he said he doesn't want to be a Center, but in today's NBA that's his most natural position.
like i said, i understand his position. he's a little undersized there, and he has to bang a lot, which can't be good for the longevity of the lower body. but yes, it's probably where he's most effective offensively. giving a guy approaching 30 a full max and then asking him to play up a position (particularly at center) seems like a recipe for disaster to me. that said: would it be a coup if the lakers signed him? yes.
I mean you put him there as a starter, but he doesn't have to exclusively play that spot. You can give him his old college teammate Noah playing behind him and go big with those two off the bench.
I think this is a terrible deal for the Sixers actually...thought they could get a lot more for Noel. But I guess they might actually be committed to being a playoff team next year if they're going to get Teague as their starting PG. I still think they need to rid themselves of Okafor or Embiid...but I guess Okafor now becomes heavy Embiid insurance, so you kinda have to keep em both and just bring one of them off the bench (Likely Embiid to start off). I think this is an excellent deal for the Hawks as it is definitely Horford insurance....Noel is a much better fit next to Millsap I feel....and I dunno why people don't think he's an NBA starter...he's been pretty damn good thus far and only reason he wasn't as good last year is because he was on an imbalanced roster and was forced to play next to Okafor....a player that he just can't play with at all. I was hoping we would offer up Clarkson for Noel in a one for one deal.....but I guess the Sixers want more proven talent.
i think i explained in detail why i don't think noel's an nba starter in another thread. i'll be very surprised if a winning team starts him.
I respectfully disagree, but we'll see. I understand your points, but I think he can be a successful starting center in today's NBA.
