I don't really like all this mocking of him for misremembering or embellishing the story.

Like it or not, he's actually one of the best news reporters out there and there are so many reporters that need to be made fun of for there stupid and fake stories, that this seems like a poor choice of target.

Happens to the best of them when they do stuff like this. I don't see, though I haven't really read past the first several visual pokes ...... any hate toward him. He's fair game. If Presidents of both parties are fair comedy game on Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show and Letterman for their gaffes, then why not him with some funny humor. The damage has been done already with the gig. You can't have that job and have it known you make stuff up to report and make yourself look bigger than you are. I wish him no ill certainly. Just enjoying it like a good dose of DOOM ..... the really funny stuff.

They are saying he lied about seeing dead bodies at Katrina -- and that reporting got him his job.

People come down on Kris Kyle for lying, but this guy gets a pass?

Yeah the problem to me isn't necessarily the lying, it's the fact he's built a career on it. He's made a lot of money, gained a lot of fame and he cashed in on a lie.

I DO think the media/public have torn him down a little too much though. In today's age of being able to just strip a guy down to nothing in 15 seconds this guy went from on top of the world to the every day joke too quickly. He messed up. He got fired like he deserves. Now it's time to let the guy rebuild his career.

    ^^^ he wasn't fired. 6 month suspension.

I'm not in favor of him losing his job either.

I never heard anything about him lying about seeing bodies after Katrina. I was refering to him saying his chopper got hit in Iraq and they had to land, when in fact it wasn't his chopper that got hit, it was one of the choppers in his convoy that got hit, but his chopper had to land as well. I can see making that mistake in recalling how it happened. If you're a civilian, you probably hear a big boom, get scared s*** less, then get told your chopper has to land. He could have easily thought his chopper was hit in the moment, and then forget the details when recalling the event.

To be clear, if this is a pattern with him, that's different. As I understood it, the one lie he told was recalling his chopper being shot down in Iraq.

    You're right, my bad.

I just meant he was asked to take a leave of absence. For the record I'd have preferred just giving him a shot to tell his side of the story, but it is what it is.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2015/02/05/did-brian-williams-lie-about-his-katrina-experience-too/

Now, perhaps Williams was thinking of another area of the city that was more heavily flooded when he recalled bodies floating down the streets. Maybe there is no discrepancy here at all, and Williams recalled seeing more flooding than was officially recorded. Who knows? But the fact that these and perhaps more episodes from Williams’ past are now suspect and will be revisited is an indication of the scope of the credibility problem with which NBC and the Nightly News are now contending.

It may be impossible for the network to avoid suspending the anchor while questions about his trustworthiness are investigated thoroughly and transparently.

It’s possible Williams confused this incident and his earlier accounts of seeing the streets in the French Quarter flooding when the levees broke. Again, this could simply have been a memory lapse on his part with no intent to exaggerate his experience in New Orleans, or it might have been something more unconscionable. That his intentions are in question is a problem of Williams’ own making.

FWIW - the above is from the article. Not my words. The entire article explains how the French Quarter didn't experience the flooding of other areas and highly doubtful he saw dead bodies floating down the street in that area.

Is he lying? I don't know. But I wouldn't put it past him.

I'm for forgiveness. Hopefully he learns from this and comes back as strong as ever. But in the meantime, I'm loving the memes.
