So yeah, today was f***ing crazy. At this point I’m more than over Jeanie, she screwed her siblings over and wanted to also somehow stay on for year, and now they screwed her back, she needs to take it like an adult, it’s a horrible look for the end of the Buss’ family tenure. Why should she get to sell and remain in power? It’s delusional, can’t have your cake and eat it too. Just GTFO out at this point and take the Rambii with you.

300mil + apiece if they check out. That's a lot of reasons to let go.

Jeannie is just looking out for who she has always cared about most and that’s herself. She’s always acted to preserve her own power including surrounding herself with her friends and never seeking the best talent. She ran off anyone who disagreed with her.

so, not surprised she will make this messy.

I just don’t know how successful this will be in the long term. I suspect her brothers are just happy to muddy the waters a bit here. They don’t have clean hands either as this is clearly about payback for them.

But I feel like this was also Iger and Kushner’s behind the scenes attempt at being gentlemen about trying to get her out the door and she may ultimately regret not taking the out.

The Buss kids are collectively awful and Dr Buss should have went ahead with selling the team before he passed away.

I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to deal with them or this circus. Cleaning house is the right call and this is just delaying the inevitable.

Haven't really been that invested in the Buss situation, but...

    Jerry was a visionary.
Jim, Johnny and Janie always wanted to cash out.
Jeanie is on a power trip.
Joey and Jesse didn't want to sell pre-Walter but got pushed out and now seeking revenge.

    Is that a good description?

Pretty much. Though to be fair, I do think there was a point way back when Jim honestly wanted to follow in his dad’s footsteps.

agree. all the buss kids kind of suck. i probably prefer jeanie and think she's technically correct here, but she basically already agreed to being phased out, so we're mostly haggling about timing and being petty.

the whole thing is depressing for me mostly because jerry buss was a really interesting/fun story (hence the tv show), and the modern state of nba ownership is so soulless and weird.

i know other people don't like him, but the closest thing to buss i can think of was probably mark cuban. a guy who wasn't born rich and just sort of started a side hustle that turned into unfathomable wealth and the first thing they wanted to do was a buy a team and get their hands in there. closest thing to just having regular fans take over, imo.

anyway, jeanie being removed only feels sad because it's the last connection, but it hasn't been run properly since jerry passed, and it's looking like it may never. we just got bought by a clippers fan and a dude who was a minority owner of memphis and miami.

I definitely have concerns about the new guys (we still don't have word on where their money is coming from). But if the choice is between continuing this constant circus (which isn't even entertaining, just sad and filled with disappointments on the court over the years) and a soulless corporation with at least some hope things could change I'm going to have to take the gamble with the corporate guys.

Maybe Jeanie has fears about the new owners pulling Dallas level bad moves with their non Lakers “caring” history / purely corporate intentions, as did their new owners and GM, especially after the monstrous mess with Walter’s money and no one knowing where it’s coming from here yet?

Respectfully (and I mean that) but you mean bad moves like
    - getting into a relationship with the head coach?
    - creating a rift and running off one of the greatest execs of all time?
    - hiring Magic to run the franchise instead of just as a pitch man
    - firing Frank Vogel who ended up being the only person to take the fall for the Westbrook trade
-hiring Darvin Ham in a series of coaching blunders that seems to have hopefully ended when we tripped over JJ after a fake flirtation with a college coach for…reasons that we still don’t know.

That’s not even including our overall record and lack of on court success during her tenure.

I have no idea what the new guys will be like but Jeannie had more than enough time to make an impact. And she did. For many of the wrong reasons.

What was Dr Buss thinking with this one? I’m surprised there hasn’t been any murder going on the way his kids hate eachother

Yeah I agree Jeannie was the smartest of the Buss kids but there is a clear lack of boundaries in this kids work decisions that certainly feels they weren't told no enough and more importantly why no.

The Phil Jackson relationship and jettisoning West clearly led to a decline in the executive leadership that the team is still struggling with to this day. The whole laker family thing with the rambii, magic, rob etc and now not taking a clear sweetheart deal. This valuation is so ridiculous it makes no sense to keep your shares just to keep the pretense of a work title uggh

It's testament to the strength of the brand and the city for it not to crumble

I've been in Jeanie's corner in terms of the Buss family drama but I think this thing has run its course. Walter was a guy who could amiably handle the transfer of power with Jeanie but the newbies want a clean slate and I get that. Given that Rob didn't hit a home run this summer (still no starting level forward on board, not a contender), its probably best for the team to move on from the good old Rambii, Rob and the Busses. And I don't like this scenario at all with these new guys or the way it went down. Jeanie may win the case but clearly since the other Busses are ready to sell she's beating a dead horse now. Time for her to do what the family wants and get paid. She's just in the way now.

That's pretty much how I see it though I do not know that her legal standing is quite as iron clad as they are stating.

But if they are correct and she does win, its just an unnecessary delay. Everyone will be moving to get her out there and eventually they will prevail.

I agree completely. She’s been just as awful as I could envision a spoiled brat who inherited Daddy’s Business could be.
Was I a little sad when hearing the news that there no longer will be any Buss connections with the Lakers?
Yes, but after reading your post and thinking about how poorly our beloved Lakers have been run, I can’t wait for this saga to be over.
