i think we definitely didn't do a great job developing him, but he also didn't make the most of his opportunities over time. he's going to be traded and/or cut within weeks, and he's fighting for his nba life right now given how few roster spots there are, league-wide. but he HAS shown he can play some. like we were saying in the other thread, the line between in and out of the league is razor sharp.
Our coaching staffs have sucked at developing players. In the end it was up to Dalton to prove himself and he didn't. I hope he does stick somewhere but it isn't looking good. I will admit when I'm wrong, I really thought DK was going to hit.
so did i. i didn't realize he couldn't remember a single basketball play. i thought there was no way he could have even been successful at a major college program being that hoop dumb.
Even JJ thought. He said he was in the 1% as a shooter which is particularly relevant coming from one of the best shooters in the history of the league. I'm sure it was also to bump him up and give him confidence, but still. Just shows how badly prepared he really was. He's elite at the most hyped skill when he join the league, joined a team starving for shooting and with a HC that has shooting as the main trait of his philosophy + was his elite skill as a player. It's really a great example of how much intangibles (IQ, processing speed, learning ability, movement, executing) is more important than tangibles (athleticism, shooting, other skills). I think he was a very good pick at the time, really unfortunate it didn't pan out.
he would have 100% been my pick that year. and in retrospect, that draft has kinda sucked. top three picks were risacher (already dumped), sarr (super underwhelming so far) and reed sheppard. holland, saluan, dillingham, and cody williams were all in the top 10. yikes. i like kyshawn george the year, but not at 17. just a lot of meh-to-bad in that first round.
