Most NBA heads think running t back was not a good idea
If those guys wont win you a title why not just Play Carr and Thou and sign other vets on min contracts that wont tie up money? Had Ayton opted out he may have been right there with them. getting rid of Van has to also be on the to do list as he fell out the rotation. If Smart is not there Then Maybe Van gets playing time to be traded.

separate post for completely separate thoughts:

i'm still wondering what denver and cleveland are doing. clearly okc just decided that being a little over the 2nd apron was acceptable.

cleveland has lost ellis and wade, but were trying to get off strus and schroder? are they still? are they just "lebron or bust"?

we've heard basically nothing on watson in denver, and they've made zero moves to free up money. is the bos/den trade real?

still several large things to happen.

Sounds like the Cavs are waiting to see what Bron decides.

Brown probably impacts Denver the most. If that fails, they'll pivot to dumping Cam and maybe more teams emerge after the Harris/Collins/Rui grouping signs to teams.

    And there goes one
So much for that Bron replacement. Upgrade for them from Harris.

I like Rui but to be honest not the PF the team Needs. So while i would love to have him back i am ok with a cost cutting Move like say John Collins. We had Rui, Van, etc locked up and teams did not value them. So Rui close to 20 mil with Lakers is risky. Would have to have to face him on the Spurs but it is what it is.

Is Denver trying to get Brown to lure LeBron? Is Brown a domino for LeBron at all? Doubtful IMO, the GS thing seems too real.

Not sure of everything cap wise, but is Miami trying to get Brown by dangling Bam, giving Boston their big, and then looking at LBJ? C Bags probably wouldn't entertain that scenario at all, but this stuff is cycling through my head. People seem rattled.

so collins got the over mle deal out of that group. guessing rui to spurs is announced shortly, as i don't think either cap space team left is going to pay rui.

i guess i figured he was going to be gone before we got our business settled in any case.

i think there will still be a player or two left on the market, danny green style, if we're left holding the bag. and we'll give them oversized short-term deals using our space.

I still strongly thinks Rui will be back. The only player We ran to lock up was Austin. After that they have to be cheap and stay under these aprons. Or Next Summer will be difficult

How do you show you’re serious about Duren when you just gave 51 million to John Collins?

separate pot of money. collins is harris's replacement. they've basically shaved off 33m from last year by moving from harris to collins, cutting huerter's salary in half, and dumping stewart. they added 12 for joe. they've got plenty of money to pay duren. why haven't they?

if i'm the spurs, the harris/rui choice is a tough one. harris has been the better player, but he's older. both fit very nicely into your team.

It’s just Bron’s usual, passive aggressive, routine. I don’t think it was a big factor in him, leaving

I’m still a Grimes fan. At times he has been a positive man defender and at others an expansive scorer. But never both at the same time. If he can put it together, he is a really nice piece. Right now though, he is a step or two below Smart. A 6th or 7th man on a competitive squad.

Georgian Sandro is an 8th or 9th guy. He isn’t anything special when it comes to shooting, defending or rebounding - no real elite skills. He is just solid. One mark against him is that he shrank in the playoffs when teams game planned for him and his shot crumbled. That’s what I really value about Rui, he finishes plays and especially so when the lights are brightest. As a 7th/8th guy, that’s a phenomenally valuable skill to have.

We can argue semantics over who’s better, but even if you say Grimes and Sandro are better than Smart and Rui. We still lost Kennard on top of that and Lebron.

Here is how I see the team right now:

    1. Luka
    2. Reaves (not the best 2nd because he can be attacked on D)
    3.
    4. RFA big
    5.
    6.
    7. Grimes
    8. Sandro
    9.
    10. Ayton
    11. Hayes
    12. Jake
    13. Carr
    14. Adou
    15. Bronny

Even after we sign the RFA, we need 4 rotation pieces to compete and we need to get rid of Knecht and Vando as well. That’s still multiple windows to get there.

We kind of need two starters this offseason. Not 1 and 2 bench pieces.

the RFA big is number three, not 4, imo.

and why are we acting like FA is over? the plan was not mamu and grimes and we out.

Free agents aren’t going to wait for a team to figure things out. We are running the risk of there simply not being many good options left for us to sign after we finish chasing the big fish.

A lot is riding on landing a big name. Even if we do, you have to wonder what kind of group we will be able to put around them.
