i like it about as much as i liked knecht (never liked the jhs pick for one second).

didn't have to time to really get into all of cranjis's stuff, but a lot of that seems potentially coachable. hard to know sometimes if guys can or will take coaching.

fwiw (not a ton, but not nothing), he didn't grade out terribly as a defender in college by dbpm. comparable to all the guards taken in the top 10, tbh. iow, if he can't defend, it's possible that a lot of the guys taken ahead of him can't, either.

Bulking up alone should help with that, so if he's been passable on D as a skeleton, there should be a lot of room for improvement. Let's hope for the best.

i think the concern was less about that (though it's real--but jaden mcdaniels is a top-tier defender and might weigh less than i do) and more about just kind of not being engaged/in position, etc.

what i didn't articulate well above was that this could be due to the dreaded low hoop iq, low motivation, or substandard coaching. i feel like it's hard to know that answer until you see the player in different environments. the fact that he was nailed to the bench despite his talent in tennessee isn't a great sign in that regard.

he's the son of a former pro, so maybe he was/is entitled and had/has some growing up to do. or maybe he's got teh dumb.

i still would have taken him where we drafted over who else was available, and maybe even several spots higher, tbh. there's high risk and high reward here. people are praising the spurs for taking quaintance at 20, and he's also very high risk/high reward.

Cranjis throws things at a wall and sees what sticks. There’s only so much you can do with stats, they don’t provide context for being dumb like abeer said or having bad coaching or just being too light.

I actually like risking on an uber athletic kid with a seven foot wingspan.
Maybe it will click in his brain that if he develops into a good defender, he can stick in this League.

Did you know that THT is only 25 years old? I didn’t and he’s out of the League. Carr should take notice

eh, he was what, the 46th overall pick? probably had more nba success and money than most guys picked there.

looking back, i was against trading him for kyle lowry, and that was probably a sizable mistake, lol.

Well, if he is, there's NBA teams employing him, and real NBA heads who cover the Lakers use his stats and get his analysis all the time.

Chances are all the people who liked this post (and most people on ehre) don't even know what a low man is in basketball...

He claims to have worked with some NBA teams, but who? And if he is so good, why is he peddling subscriptions to his own proprietary stats (that Krishna thought of) to fans and talking heads and not working directly for NBA teams with their massive amounts of data.

From what I understand, NBA teams employ real time cameras that utilise AI to count all manner of things from player muscle loading, energy exertion to countless hustle and efficiency stats that stay in house. Yet Cranjis & BBall Index use box scores to make their calls.

If they were so good, why wouldn't they be getting paid millions to create an edge for teams like GSW, Lakers, Clippers etc. My conclusion is they're doing the best they can, but like we see from Cranjis' calls, a lot of the time, it's worthless.

He's really light but otherwise has a lot of tools. Wingspan athleticism and shooting is worth taking a flyer on

I need for this kid and Adou to be in Marcus Smart’s back pocket and follow him everywhere he goes if Smart comes back.

I'm giving Carr the chance to win a starting spot this year or the very least be the backup to Smart. I know it's crazy, but his finishing ability is going to be elite, his shooting ability (even movement shooting off screens) is going to be elite, his athleticism in transition will be elite and he has the desire to guard the teams best player, plus his ability to block shots is going to provide rim protection in a way like McDaniels does (although at a much smaller height).

Play him 28 mins a game and get his reps up for the playoffs. While I'm at it, I'm giving Adou the chance to be the backup SF/PF at a ton of minutes too. Give Bronny a shot as a 1-2 3&D POA defender as well. It's time to get these rookies up to scratch. If we don't, we're in big trouble with the way our offseason is going.

Bronny as well. Learn how to use his hand better and more aggressively while keeping them up, and anything and everything else he has to say that he sees will improve all of them.

Now this is the type of mindset I want to see.
Didn't like it in the draft day but he was probably surprised he fell and with being traded too, is hard to collect your thoughts.
Glad he's coming with the right mindset. Feeling a bit better with this pick

Also watched this yesterday and the guy from Baylor talked really well about his demeanor:

    That's crazy lol
Elite is being used lightly too.
I think both can get start the year with a shift per half. And then you grow from there and get more minutes when there's injuries and see how they respond. They have to earn the minutes
