Turner would have been awesome when AD was here. That would have been a great front-court fit and probably saved AD a few injuries

in a "what if" World where we did not do the stupid Westbrook trade, kept KCP and Caruso, and traded for Turner, I think we would have been to the finals another time, maybe even have another ring.

But unfortunately he just can't be the single rim protector on this team, he is not a defensive anchor and is a weaker rebounder than Ayton.

i hope the mavs' FO thinks like their fans, as i saw this one floated:

that move would allow us to basically bring the whole band back, and we'd have vando/ayton and another 1st remaining to try to get one more rotation player.

oh, and i realize this is probably unfair, but i just can't take avila seriously. he's undersized and just has zero athleticism. i mean, if drew timme can't make in the league, this guy has zero shot.

Wait, DO we want to bring the whole band back? I don’t really, Luka had to carry our unbalanced roster so heavy last year he got injured, and we regularly got destroyed by OKC. I’d be fine moving on from Rui, even possibly doing a sign and trade with Bron to move on and make this Luka and Reaves’ team. I realize we won’t find someone better than LeBron, but we also get to move on from his passive aggressive locker room stuff and from the drama Rich Paul brings. I just think we need to start upgrading in key areas and move on from some of the core guys, even Bron, as good as he was can’t play all out every game and will likely have nagging injuries at his age again. I’m legitimately going to be so pissed if we end up just bringing LeBron back for 30+ mil, Rui back for the same as he gets now, etc.

Well this offseason just proves how good Tim Connolly is, he built the Nuggets, then the 3x time large front court Wolves and now he has transitioned them in a single offseason to a new look team.

The Ball trade gives them another high level creator in the playoffs that they really missed. They kept Gobert because Ball is an excellent lob thrower and Rudy does almost all of his damage via rim running.

    Ball / DVV
    Ant / Ayo
    McDaniels / Shannon
    x / Beringer
    Rudy / Beringer

They have space for a backup big and a starting PF. I saw their fans saying they want PJ Washington or Rui. They’re going to get better with the additions of Ayo, Ball and a new PF to go with McDaniels and Rudy defensively and Ant.

    Sheesh!

If we don’t bring Rui back, he is gonna go to the Spurs or the Wolves and be dropping threes on 45% for them. They’ll play him at PF defensively and we’ll all lament at not keeping him for 15-20m per.

Weezy has been vocal about trading assets you don’t want to use, could he have netted us a first? A few seconds? After we traded Knecht for Williams, were we better sending him out for seconds too? If we let Kennard walk, did we just spend assets for a 3 month rental?

i actually agree. my preference is actually to just blow most of it up save luka/reaves. short term pain, but at least you're trying to build with a plan.

only issue is that the UFA market sucks, so we could end up with both a worse team AND another franken-team that doesn't suit our top-paid players.

i trust the FO to know how likely that is, though.

again, it's fairly telling to me that our only "pre agency" move has been reaves.

yes, probably. i can't think about them. that's clippers mentality.

also, if i want to compete, jacking up RFA prices on duren, kessler, watson, and eason is another way. i thought it was nuts when nobody forced our hand on reaves three years ago.

rui could have got us an expiring and some seconds maybe. again, we spend two years trying to trade up from him with no takers.

yes. i also wonder why we bothered picking up his option after that. we cut bait on jhs.

if i'd known he'd end up fully dog-housed, i'd have advocated moving him for seconds.

yes. not great, but you can't let that hamper you. tim connelly could have held onto dillingham because he traded two unprotected firsts for him (well, one's a top-1 protected swap, lol).

look, i've said i can live with running it mostly back, but i also would have zero issues ripping it down to the studs.

This route sucks for so many reasons.
    • Firstly it’s a bad use of all the assets we spent to build this team over time
    • Secondly, you can’t build a team in a single offseason, so if we blow it up now, we’re multiple years away
    • The byproduct of that is, Luka is going to ask for a supermax and Reaves will ask for a max before we are contenders, at that point those guys will take up 65% of the cap, making it harder to build around
    • Luka and Reaves are 28 not 24, we don’t have years to contend
    • We don’t have a lot of assets to start again, we would have to let years pass to unlock more picks or wait for our young guys that develop
If the FO blows things up and doesn’t move closer to contention this offseason, they need to be fired. The 26 offseason was something they sold as a promise and there are no excuses to not get it done. You had 3 first round picks, salaries to trade and almost 60m in cap space.

Sorry, no getting around this one. You’re going down with the ship if you don’t make it work.

I know plenty of people feel like Rui and Kennard aren’t worth a ton around here. They’re both going to go to a contender. Rui will probably go to Spurs, Wolves or Miami for the MLE.

Kennard will go to Detroit or something after they get Kawhi.
