We started with a bang. Rob is closer to being fired. That's the optimism. Not expecting a top contender? I don't want to win rings every year, but I want a realistic chance. Luka/Austin doesn't get us there.

Rob got bent over like he usually does...can't blame Austin nor his agent, but if Rob gets fired next year because of it, that's a start.

The terrible takes just keep flowing like the salmon of Capistrano.

@TIME I'm being good. I'm putting everybody on ignore. I'm not clapping back.

I respect but the rules of Lakersball, but I don't want to get into with people who call takes "terrible," or constantly flip positions.

My stance on Reaves hasn't changed, and it won't for you Reaves lovers. He got paid too much money from an incompetent GM, and we're going to regret this; Luka/Reaves will not win a ring like ever; you can kiss that goodbye. They'll have good teams, but they'll get beaten by SAS and OKC every year like just we were with Denver. IMO.

Sorry, guys. Again, it isn't Reaves fault. Blame Rob.

I can agree with this. I don’t hold it against Reaves for getting the most money he could but I do think if that was the plan all along, he should have been a bit more quite about it not being about the money. Just say, I really love it in LA and my agent and I will take that under consideration during the offseason with the offers we are getting.

yeah, that's going to come back to bite him. like, if i'm a beat writer, that's one of my first questions when camp opens? could even ask it sort of good-naturedly: "hey, austin, about that hometown discount...?"

he should have said nothing if he was just going to send his agent in to do it without his involvement. and that would have been totally defensible, too.

he's definitely ceded the right to be mad if he's traded.

Most players say, I really love it here but I’ll let my agents work it all out. At that point, it’s like cool, let’s see what happens.

When you make a point to say, I didn’t pick up my QO, but I don’t want the max or anything like that, I jsut want what’s fair - well it has people like me thinking; you’re a really high end role player 35m is fair. You get 200m, we get flexibility, everyone is happy.

Instead your agents basically tell us you’re leaving for less than the max, get a PO in year 4 when you’re eligible for the 30% max. It literally was all about the money. Just rubs me the wrong way.

I think we have this season and next to contend before Luka’s supermax. And 3 years before Reaves’ 30% max. I can’t see us building a contender this year.

Who is this seriously and what have you done with Weezy??

    Just teasing :) :)

    But YEAH!!!!

And some people need to go back to Mark Walter’s thread and read what ultimately fired but in awe of him Buzzie Bavasi said about Mark! That he was the most “intensely competitive owner” he has ever seen. As opposed to @VincePT ’s crack earlier today that this contract for AR shows the organization is not about winning now.

i'll agree except if reaves plays his way to the big max, we'd be really good. and if he doesn't, he's probably already gone.

This. If he opts out, it means he overvalues himself and we get off the contract, he plays himself into the bigger payday, or he signs a multi-year at a lower rate for his last big NBA contract. I'm really not concerned over that option at all.

Barring injuries, I also don't see a scenario where his contract can't be traded. If all he does is continue playing at the current level, there will be teams in a year or 2 that think they're an Austin Reaves away from contention.
