They got a haul for Zubac. Not really sure why Indiana gave such loose protections on that pick and your consolation is a 30 yo Zubac? I means he's good an all but come on

Typical "last piece" type of deal.
They went to the Finals the year before, lost Turner and now feel with their top pick this year and Zubac they can go back to contending.
So they're willing to pay more because it's the final addition they need for contention.
Also got away from paying Mathurin as they must feel Hali/Nemb is their guard duo for the future

i don't like the zubac deal for indy, but i get that they were going to lose mathurin or have to trade away guys like nesmith, toppin, or nembhard if they wanted to keep him. they must have felt zu was the best center they would be able to get (feel like mavs would have given gafford without requiring the picks, though).

indy's gm made some cryptic comment about finances, and i'm just wondering if they felt the wiggle room under the first apron they might get if they don't have a pick 6-10 was worth it next year? their scouts must also be fairly certain about the dropoff after the top 4.

Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
Suffer one of the most heartbreaking losses in NBA finals history after a miracle run, tank for a full years, and you lose a pick in a draft that is being compared to Hakeem and LeBron years for freaking Zubac

    Zubac attracts bad trades

The pick that the Indiana owes the Clippers miraculously fell to #5 (top 4 protected) so the Clippers get it. At least if you are doing them a favor Silver, you can come down hard on the Aspirations investigation.

i'm still mad about this today. how is pritchard still employed after that?

like, you do realize that if you had the 5th overall pick right now, you could trade just that for a center of zubac's quality or better. instead, you traded mathurin's rights, the 5th pick, and another unprotected 1st for zubac...just so that you could make sure he was there for the last two months of your full season tank?

I may be wrong and if that's the case, as abeer says, game on for Walter to operate the same way but much smarter with semi legit hot dog and sushi franchises etc needing Lakers players involvement. But after the finals are over and definitely before the draft .... we are going to hear the ramifications for Kawhi and his uncle and Balmer and the Clippers. Come on Silver let's see if you have any balls and/or are reading the room right with all the other owners watching.

eh, the local ballmer defenders will just say that this proves that the real problem was the aspiration team, and that poor ballmer didn't know anything about all this and was the victim of a fraudster. they will also buy my bridge, of course.

Aspiration co-founder Sanberg sentenced to 14 years in prison

LOS ANGELES -- A federal judge sentenced Aspiration co-founder Joseph Sanberg, whose now-bankrupt green banking company is at the center of an NBA investigation into the LA Clippers, to 14 years in federal prison Monday.

Sanberg previously pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud after prosecutors said he defrauded investors and lenders out of $248 million by fraudulently obtaining loans, falsifying bank and brokerage statements, and concealing that he was the source of some revenue booked by the company. Each count carried a maximum of 20 years in prison
so Silver is basically telling us
    Leave Kawhi and Balmer alone
    they are f***ing innocent

We DON"T know that yet. Silver is not going to announce anything until the Finals are over, at the least, and if he has any balls with other owners watching, ding them BEFORE the draft. Maybe void Snake's contract, something for his uncle and something pick wise for the Clippers???
