I haven’t wanted to make a thread for him and jinx it, but he deserves one right now. I don’t know how long he sticks around, but he’s helped win us a couple games now with his energy and hustle, smart passing, and skilled scoring. Keep giving him Dalton’s minutes, just keep doing it, he doesn’t have Dalton’s physical tools, but he’s so much smarter and more fundamentally sound, and he isn’t worse than him on defense, because you can’t be. I’ll gladly be wrong on this one if he can continue to be a solid role player for us, hell I was calling for him to be cut for Bufkin, and now I say keep rolling with it and see what happens.
He's a really good offensive player but man did Denver run him out of the game quick with just iso blowbys.from.a big If second string bigs can just go line drive to basket he's not going to be able to contribute consistently
Absolutely true and why I’m still not sure he’s an NBA player. My main thing is for now he’s at least giving us positive offensive minutes where Dalton gives us nothing. He’s creating good shots for others and himself, and we lack depth so badly on the bench that that pops right away. When Austin comes back Dalton’s minutes likely disappear, which means Timme’s would as well, so I don’t think it’s a long-term issue. Hopefully we make a move or two that adds to starting lineup and bench depth that maybe makes this a non-issue as well, but who knows. If nothing else and this ends soon, skilled back to the basket good passing bigs are so rare these days it’s been fun to watch one again. Like this sort of stuff, we don’t have many guys that do this, you’re not gonna see Rui do this much, but it matters
I get all the very real flaws in his game but he doesn’t piss his pants when the game gets tight and can hit the broad side of a barn when he gets an open shot. That instantly rockets him to one of our better scoring options off the bench (I wish I was joking but I’m not).
BB IQ, balls under pressure and actual offensive skills. That's 2 more than like half the roster, sign me up.
if he were a couple inches taller and substantially stronger, he might be a star. but as it stands, i just don't know where he plays. he's clearly a center but in a forward's body. if he committed himself to getting in top-notch physical condition (adding a ton of strength a la sabonis), maybe he can become a regular rotation guy in the nba. even then, where's his home defensively? doesn't protect the paint, can't contain ballhandlers or chase/contest shooters. the hoop iq is a tremendous help, but it can't solve all that. guys like kornet can be really valuable despite zero athleticism because they're smart and huge. timme's not huge. but i agree with everyone that he's clearly skilled, smart, and mentally tough. there's certainly value there.
He's not going to close any games based on his defense, but if he can come in and consistently hit jumpers and threes (particularly with the second unit) then I think he should be a part of the rotation until we can acquire a better option.
right now, i'd almost say the minutes you slot in him for are rui's, though, right? knecht's fully on garbage duty already, so there's no place there. unless you want to limit laravia (i don't) or vando again (really different roles there). or do you think he should eat some of ayton's or hayes's minutes (i'm a no there, too).
Its tricky to say as all those guys are better overall players, but sometimes are just not giving us enough out there. I lean toward Rui, particularly with him still coming back from the injury, and probably Vando. I'll have to really take a look at what the data shows for Cranjis and the other analytic guys out there when we get a few more games under our belt. When you say it out loud, I don't want to sideline anyone for Timme, but its clear when you watch the games that he's giving us good minutes even with his issues on defense (which I'm not downplaying). Naturally, matchups make a big difference here but if any of our forwards are stinking it up, I'm comfortable seeing what Timme can do. I understand the defensive problem, but sometimes we need a basket and the other guys just aren't doing anything on either end so at least we'd have a guy who can hit a shot. Its like, how do measure not choking in the moment, hitting a basic layup or wide open jumper, etc.
He’s horrible on defense so he fits right in! On a serious note, he’s been very effective scoring against the other team’s second unit. I’m rooting for him- also rooting for him to get much, much stronger so his lack of height won’t be the thing that ends his NBA career.
He's definitely a NBA player. Great motor, IQ, feel. Can pass a bit and most importantly can shoot, which is the only way he can play PF. Defense is bad, they're targeting him but he can get some 2nd/3rd Q minutes. If you're going to have him guard in space, we really need Jax or Vando paying attention to that back line. I don't think Ayton is twitchy enough to cover for him.
...i was literally laughing with a friend the other night about him, Huff, and Bufkin ending up being all stars and a big three for the Grizzlies in like 2 or 3 seasons.
