yeah, i've been wrong before on reaves--when he was RFA i thought surely SA or utah or houston would just force us to pay him big. they may be regretting not doing that now, as we're poised to take advantage of his lower-than-value-cap hold this summer, something that wouldn't have been possible with those poison pill offers. but there's a few teams with tons of space this summer, and there will be almost nowhere to spend it. just adding reaves to a young team like utah could make you a playoff team for the first time in forever. and...you know...it's utah... we might be able to get him to take a declining deal, but i think it's going to be max or near it. i'm just planning on it. call it an overpay, but denver was paying mpj 40 million to be their rui last year.
Just based on his own words. Professed desire to remain a Laker and not requiring top dollar but (fair/respectful[maybe appeal to helping roster acquisition]) salary offer. You think he wants to play in cold winter weather Utah the golf lover and Lakers lover he is. Similar arguments against other max offer locations. I’m thinking/hoping.
He's getting the max, we'll offer the max and he'll sign and then say he would have signed for less but we just offered him the max.
I hope he represents poor underprivileged paleskins everywhere and gets the max cash he can to give hope to the small town mid american athlete that thinks they can't make it big time. Such a beautiful story.
yeah, and again, the 5 million per difference is just not a huge deal to me. as the cap explodes, that's going to be close to vet min money, so it's not costing you another player or something. it's not worth the awkwardness to even offer less than the max at this point (unless he has a significant injury requiring surgery or something).
I hope people understand Reaves at the max has a high probability of becoming a toxic contract, if this year is an outlier and he has a few down years. plus he has shown nothing in the playoffs, and I'm personally not convinced a team with Luka and Reaves can win a ring.
