How could Nico be fired when DuPont wanted Luka traded????

I would Pay to get that exclusive interview with Nico when he gets fired. Why was Luka traded and what really happened?

Yeah the new owners were not ready to pay Luka the max so Nico takes the fall

 

i kinda feel bad for him. i actually don't think he was forced into the luka trade. i think it was his idea. it was a catastrophically bad idea.

that said, i can see that he just felt like luka wasn't of the right mindset to win big (lots of people here said that, too), and he thought getting an all-nba guy in return could keep them afloat in a way that would help the fans move on.

then they lose kyrie and have all the other injuries, and he'll never get a chance to see if his vision could actually work (again, people here thought it could, too).

i'll be very curious to see what he does next. will he leave the business (probably)? go back to nike/other related/supporting industries?

one of the weirdest things to me is that he really nailed a few things before the luka trade (e.g., getting gafford and pj washington), and then he just downard spiraled. like, the grimes and a 2nd for caleb martin deal is almost as bad as the luka trade, lol.

whatever, dallas couldn't move on until he was separated from the franchise, imo. they really just need to bring in an outsider to remake the basketball ops and build around flagg and lively, imo.

 

I imagine that AD must be going, oh s***!!! I'm going to get traded again!

 

i think rich paul is saying AD is tight with the owner right now, so i'm guessing he's been told that's not the current plan?

it should be the plan. for everybody's sake. AD will never be accepted there and will just be seen as "not luka".

Didn’t expect the Kings to blow it up so soon. I thought they’d at least hold out to 12-28 and then decide if they should blow it up or lie to themselves that a 20 game win streak is just around the corner.

Being the kings, they’ll use Ellis as a throw in to get off Zach Lavine. Sighhh

 

I think it was his idea and that’s what always made it worse to me. It reeked of the old and infamous Bulls / Jerry Krause mentality about organizations. None of his reasons for making the trade added up. His defenders in the media were at least in part because he’s known as a good guy and has a lot of friends around the league (something that seems to be a kiss of death lately with all the scandals going on).

I’ve got nothing against him as a man and no reason to think he’s a bad person. But there’s no wiggle room on a trade like this. It’s GOT to work out and work out immediately or you’re cooked.

Then you add that the city legit loved Luka AND hates us and most everything that has anything to do with California.

I don’t get it. Never will.

You and a couple of other guys threw out the possibility of getting Luka and I legit thought it was a complete pipe dream. The world thought Shams was hacked when he announced the trade.

I still can’t believe we got him.

Nico will bounce back in some capacity even if it’s heading back to Nike or another apparel company. But his legacy as an exec will be that he was the guy who traded Luka.
