is this guy trying to do pr for bronny? because his pubescent screeching is unwarranted like, 90% of the time. it's like a tim robinson character or something. i'm not defending bronny's pg play--it's generally bad. but several of the plays this guy picks are fine. like he's screaming for him to get back in the paint in transition when steph curry is trailing, then gets mad that curry gets a shot on the trail. if anything bronny didn't commit enough to attaching to curry; the sin wasn't not getting back into the paint, where two guys already were. the play he wants him to drive on there's no lane. it would have been a turnover. i know, because most of what he does is a turnover. had he passed up the open three, this guy would have screamed about that. this kind of stuff is ridiculous and an indicator of the lack of shame that marks our times.
I thought he looked good defensively, he can stay in front of his guy really well and has elite lateral movement. Offensively though he has no feel for the game yet, like you said it's all just too fast for him.
He's just all hustle and effort out there. I'm not trying to hate but watching him play, he's just not NBA-ready. He can only go right. Never goes left. Teams just trap him and he turns the ball over or makes a tough pass to where his teammates have to literally leap for it. He's wide open on jumpers or 3's but they're just short. I wonder if he has a floater instead because that might be better for him.
Yeah, defensively i liked what I saw tonight. Offensively he looks like he took a step back from where he was at the end of last season.
He needs reps to get into a groove on offense, but he's most likely, not going to get enough of them this season. He competes on D, he has to hang his hat on that.
Yah he looks better on D almost like a little quicker than start of pre-season games. And getting into people more with his hands and that reach. More active than he has been. Smart rubbing off on him has to be some of it. Some bad plays on offense but also a couple LeBron-Luka-Austin level flashes of great passes. The shooting will come. The flashes in whichever areas show he’s physically capable.
I disagree strongly. I know we're trying to be optimistic about Bronny but we also have to be very honest about the situation. I don't think he ever had NBA-talent and it's quite obvious he was signed into the Lakers because it was a feel-good story for LeBron and good marketing for the NBA. He never played well in college and I get that he was dealing with a health issue but that's not really an excuse on whether or not you should be on an NBA team. So there was no rationale as to how he got into the NBA. Physically capable isn't really going to cut it. Watch this video above. It actually highlights very well how Bronny isn't ready, period. I'd say he probably cost the Lakers the game. Very simple plays or coverages turned into very bad or non-existent plays by Bronny.
This video was posted and commented on, above thrice already. We saw it. If the 12th man, is really the root cause, of losing games. Your team already sucked.
Two things can be true. He is not an NBA level player, and is only on the team because of nepotism. But he is improving and has a chance to become a legit NBA bench player. He has 1-2 years to make that happen. In the meantime, we might as well root for it to happen. It's not like he has any trade value.
He's not the root cause, but when you have 7 injured players, 5 of whom are starters or in the regular rotation, and your 12th man becomes your 7th man, then yes, he makes a difference and can be the tipping point reason for a loss. Like, replace Bronny with Smart, and there is a good chance we win that game, even without LeBron or Luka.
Yeah, that's like a hit piece, whether mostly accurate from that one game or not, from 3 weeks ago. And none of what you say above can be said with certainty because none of it allows for continued improvement. It is entirely possible in one more year at the old age of 22, if not sooner, he has become as good a POA defender as Gabe is now, with more athleticism, will have again increased strength (every year for the next 5 years into prime musculature) .... and will be hitting shots with enough frequency that he can become an off the bench rotation player. Not to mention can playmake (some) now and will be better at that as well, plus further improved handles. My opinion. You have yours, but it doesn't take any of that into consideration. His athleticism is starting to Pop.
Sorry, but he never had NBA talent even to be a bench player. Saying he is improving doesn't change anything. You can be a 3 year old on the Lakers roster and if you improve, does that mean you are still an NBA-talent?
There's no evidence he was ever an NBA-ready player or still is. None. Sorry, but you have to present that case. Not just blindly support a player just because he plays for the Lakers. Look at his High School and College basketball history. He was never good. His entire basketball story seems to be so LeBron can say he has a son in the NBA playing alongside him. People talk about his athleticism. Dude, I see 17 year old's at local NYC public parks who have equally as good athleticism, lol. His athleticism isn't anything out-of-ordinary for his age or stature. "Good POA defender" No, he hasn't. Prove it. You're just saying random words to try and convince yourself. He can playmake? No he can't! Show me where he can create plays for the team. The onus is on you to prove your own statements. From what I've seen, he's below average at every level. Undersized guard, can't shoot, can't pass, can't rebound, not good at finishing below the rim, doesn't have a floater, can't attack the left side and only goes right, and his BBIQ, which is what others have said was his best trait, is nowhere near what it should be at the NBA level. This roster spot could have gone to Jordan Goodwin or another player who can contribute. JJ Red is a smart guy... I can bet you deep down, he really dislikes Bronny's game but has no choice. You say that video is a hitpiece. Okay, fine. Dispute any of what he said and prove me otherwise with clips of him showing he can play high level basketball! You say the shooting will come? Dude, he shot 27% from three in High School and College! Where is it going to come from? You think NBA players magically learn how to shoot because of you being optimistic?
We'll just disagree. There were a couple great to really great passes in that last game for assists. Definition of plays made. "Flashes" Are important. As well as some turnovers and bad plays. He's a work in progress. In no way am I or anyone else disputing why he got in the NBA when he did. The thing is HE wants it and continues to work and has continued to show improvement in areas, except % of shots made. I'm not the only person here that commented on the improved defense. Some of our best posters mentioned it before me. And some of them, in addition to me, feel there is the chance in another year of him being capable of being a rotational player. Or 2 years at most, whether elsewhere or here. I'm not making s*** up in a vacuum. You and OX apparently think your opinions have value over everyone's with regard to Bronny.
Because it's one season later and he still hasn't shown any improvements while taking up a valuable roster spot. And he was never deserving of it at the HS, College, and now pro level. That's the problem. You want us to give credit to him and act as if he's earned it.
