I get the feeling “cleared” is a strong word for Beasley. I think we will discover that other words like “cooperated” are a bit more fitting. Can’t imagine a team (or players) would want him in their locker room.

that 42 million contract that went away has to sting a little right now. Most they can offer now is 7 mil?

IF he was innocent, he was done wrong. If he's NOT, then that's just less to lose on gambling and probably in his best interest.

Or as Beasley would say, 'The modern NBA has no respect for someone with the self-confidence and spirit to bet on himself' - 'I did that'

Los Angeles Lakers: The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to take their current roster into training camp and give this group a chance to prove themselves before charting possible trades and changes. Specifically, the Lakers are interested in seeing what value Gabe Vincent and Maxi Kleber can provide.

Even so, Rob Pelinka and the Lakers' front office still explored the trade market this offseason for center depth and wing defenders before signing both Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart. No deal with immediate value and minor financial details presented itself to Los Angeles during the summer, leading to Los Angeles' patience.

The Lakers are set on having max cap space in the offseason over the next two years, and any potential moves made before the trade deadline will be reflective of this philosophy.

    Where is the quote from?

Said it before, but I hate the bolded. It's basically admitting we're not going to trade our expirings for someone who can help us this year, because no one is looking to trade expirings for expirings. I hate establishing self-defeating criteria and then using it as an excuse later for why you didn't do anything.

Ummm .... your comment and opinion I guess. But pretty presumptuous IMO to "assume" Walter, Jeanie and the FO are NOT looking at the big picture with a plan to best compete this year and going forward. I mean that should be ANY team's plan.

yeah, it's just absolute garbage. the point of the space is leverage in trade negotiations. and not just fake media/fan leverage, but real, like: "how about i just sign your guy?" leverage.

we're putting out that we'll be patient (and we will--it's not a hollow threat) so that teams don't try to jerami grant us. i'm firmly on board with it.

we have luka under contract, and we have austin's bird rights on a lower cap hold than his value. we have nothing on the books for two years outside of that. make ME an offer, fella. i'm holding the good cards.

For me it boils down to one question: if they get a trade offer in December to bring in a starting caliber player that addresses a need, do they dismiss it out of hand because the guy is owed significant money beyond this year?

Say the Raptors call and say Barrett is available for some combination of Gabe/Kleber expirings, Dalton and the 2031 pick. That quote makes me think the FO says no, because Barrett is owed a little under $30 million for 2026-2027. I think that would be dumb. Thats an example of a guy that could really help us this season, and in future seasons. He could also be in a trade for a max contract star down the line because he’s pretty young and would be an expiring in 2026-2027.

I’m concerned that they’d turn down an opportunity to help the current team based on a hope of getting Giannis or Jokic. Personally, I don’t think either guy is going anywhere. Jokic has given zero indication he wants out of Denver or that he’d enjoy playing for the most prominent franchise in the world. And Giannis clearly can’t bring himself to demand out, they managed to convince him to stay with Turner and tens of millions in dead money. I don’t think Giannis is going to suddenly pivot to not just wanting out, but going nuclear and threatening to sign into our cap space unless he’s traded here specifically. I just don’t think he’s going to do them like that.

btw, what are the parameters here, as it looks like "these teams might have injuries" or something.

to me, "turmoil" means conflict, and so at this point my candidates would be teams like gs and chicago, who haven't been able to come to terms with key FAs. or anyone who is in contentious extension situations.

i mean, the answer is obviously no. they'll weigh the value of that guy to the value of the space (and the assets the team will certainly try to extract in the process).

i just don't get the anxiety here.

if they like barrett, i'm sure they do this. if they don't, they don't.

i don't think we're getting either, but i think we can use the threat/theory of either to strengthen our negotiating position in other things. "we're giving up the chance to chase these guys AND you want all of our future firsts?!"

the bigger issue to me is what i said above--we're not desperate. could we use one more playoff-quality player? definitely. but we're not going to get saddled with an untradeable contract to try and plug that hole right now. this is good.

Brett Siegel …. whoever he is right in the midst of it being echo’d here that with nothing going on in the off season these guys are pulling scoops from their butts. And you jumped to the old trash the FO because them and the new owner aren’t smart enough to see what you see in your hypothetical.
