Once he dons the purple and gold, his numbers will inevitably come down… right?? Maybe Smart will be the exception to the rule!
Great move. Smart isn't a great catch and shoot 3 guy and most of his value on offence comes from his passing and junk yard play. So we should try to get him a bit of usage on the ball when he is playing with the bench and one of Luka/Lebron. Defensively, he isn't the DPOY defender he was a few years ago as he's lost a bit of top line athleticism, but if can stay healthy, he is a huge improvement at POA and on the wings. Bronny has a chance to learn from one of the best players that fits his mould defensively. All around, great move! Curious to see what happens next, shake gets cut obviously. But do we cut Goodwin too, or is there a trade imminent?
Rui will kick your *** you say that to his face. 41.3 last season and 42.2 the season before. He'd be sensitive about it in a career contract year.
Good signing high reward but he's going to have to step up Yikes He's another one you hope is serious about getting into shape and getting the chunk off. Another who needs to be hooked into Lebron trainer program
Well, when you are at the buyout stage of a player, you are going to get real flaws. For the price we are paying, its a no brainer gamble you take on his health. If he can play 50-60 regular season games plus playoffs, you hit. If he gets injured and averages 30 games for two years, you miss. I love this addition. Great get, Rob and Luka!
This is a real win for us. Smart is going to be good for the Lakers. Plus we still have all our assets.
Defense hopefully will still be great but offensively he needs to plant himself in a corner because if he is relied upon to create God help us
Some highlights, one of them also featuring LaTravia: Really great signing, this is exactly what we needed.
I like everyone's enthusiasm, and I hope you're right about this signing. I am optimistic but with a lot of reservations. Besides health, his defensive metrics have been slipping the past few years, and on offense he's better with the ball, but not so good off-ball, and he'll mainly be off-ball on our team. I think there's a good chance that Melton is the better pickup, but I hope I'm wrong about that and that in a prove-it revenge year, Smart gets closer to the Smart of several years ago.
After soaking in this pick up damn, I just realized there isn't enough ball. Smart excels with the ball. Dude isn't a good shooter, sure he makes the occasional spot up 3 but if hes forced to shoot a high volume of them it isn't going to work and then if he doesn't have the ball he'll be a liability on offense if he isn't slashing and cutting. Which of course will sooner or later diminish, most players losing their first step at this point of their career, especially with that mileage. Great pick up nonetheless, he'll be a glue guy all around hustler and annoying on the defensive end. But luka really needs to pull his own weight on defense moving forward. Teams are going to play even hard not just for the fact that he's luka but now hes a laker, every other game is going to be a national tv game which is essentially viewed at the international stage. with chemistry issues in terms of how much time AR/LBJ/LUKA are going to have the ball marcus puts a different dynamic. If the ball isn't going to be moved around and smart is regulated to spot up 3's he's gonna be a dud on the offense end. With that said theres gonna be more pressure on AR to play better especially if smart makes better plays down the stretch but we'll see smart definitely won't be able to deliever the voluem of shots that AR can provide.
