DFS that’s a tough call. I don’t know if he was prioritized. I know in free agency. The Lakers number 1 priority was the big. They were probably thinking of signings and trades. Deals were on the table. Then Ayton got bought out. So now you’re working the buyout market.

Lebron behind the scenes with the opt in. So he was a priority.

DFS people maybe asking for 4 maybe there was a communication thing where they gave a number to Rob never came off of it. And Rob never was doing 4. Probably said I’ll do 2 maybe they said give us 3 and Rob might have been like no.

DFS wasn’t great for us against Minnesota. We already pay a guy whose primary job is defense in Vando. And that contract looks bad. DFS is not a scorer anymore. He’s just not he’s a corner three point shooter and when that isn’t going down. He’s not a factor on offense and you’re playing 4-5 it was a harsh negotiation. But you gotta bring some more to the table.

around here anything after two years the Lakers get scared because the name Luol Deng comes up.

Who knows maybe DFS wanted to go back to Texas. Lakers gave up alot in that trade. They definitely should’ve focused more on him. Sometimes in free agency you do that. And a guy takes a deal somewhere else.

I think the rook is skipping summer league to rehab. He's expected to be ready to go by training camp.

I like the players we got better than DFS. I think he’s gotten a bit overrated here and 3 years is too long of guaranteed money. I would have been pissed if we traded Knecht for some second rounders that we’ve had success buying on the open market. Plus the last thing I want to be doing is paying a 43 year old LeBron 50 million. Hard pass from me.

yeah, i'll reiterate that lebron not getting the 1+1 was the first and biggest domino in all this. the press has it wrong, for the most part, imo. they think he picked that. because our FO isn't going to leak the real story. i think this is wise. but we didn't want to be on the hook for his whims anymore, and we knew we didn't have to be. other choices flowed downstream from that, imo, including deciding not to bring back DFS. i'm beginning to think this was actually at any price for any amount of time--that him opting out was what we wanted once we knew lebron was opting in.

What if a 43 year old Lebron, is still All NBA? Lebron will get whatever he asks for ,from the Lakers. As long as he's still balling at a high level. I think this has more to do with LeBron's move than anything.

"Savannah wants me to (expletive) retire in the next year or so," James admitted to Kevin Love in a now-viral clip.

What do you think the chances of this happening? I’m not saying Bron can’t contribute at 43 but for 50 million?

What were the chances that he would be All NBA at 40? Whoever did that?
Look at these contract extensions being handed out..two years from now, 50M isn't going to be considered huge. I think his wife is going to shut him down first, especially if he gets injured.

50 million for a 43 year old is HUGE. Sorry. He’s already breaking down, Father Time is undefeated.

Yet...All NBA, is still All NBA, tho Cookie. They don't just give that award out, as some kind of a career accomplishment thing. I get it that you may think, it's unrealistic, but this dude keeps defying logic on longevity.

I’m still wanting to kick the tires on Ben Simmons once we tie up some of these other loose ends. Being around Lebron and Luka may unlock him. He can literally do some of the same stuff they can as a passer. Worth taking a chance on for a vet min contract.

I like who we ended up with but I think guys like DFS on reasonable contracts (and I think his deal and new deal are reasonable) are key when building championship teams. The impact he had on the team showed consistently in the advanced stats even when his numbers don’t blow you away.

I think Jake has a lot of upside and can fill that role but I was a big fan of the DFS trade and do hate to see him go.

The Lakers need to build around Luka. He is our future. If we tie up that kind of money for a 43 year old, we are only delaying that plan. Bron can stay as long as he wants but NOT for that kind of money.

Understood..but Luka wants to win right now too. Having a player of that caliber, on his team, enhances that chance. I'm taking it year by year, the old man hasn't fallen off the cliff yet.

I think Lebron will get sympathy All NBA votes as he ages. The process can't be trusted. Trust your eyes and the +/- stat that was built to make him look good.

When it doesn't pencil out, only offer him what is appropriate. If he wants to uproot in his 40's for more money when he's a billionaire, let him.

Giving him a 2 year contract is not year by year, is it?

Buha also saying that the Warriors may now be more likely for Melton. Wonder what changed.

Feels like Melton is waiting to sign?
Lakers needs some playable guards. Smart and Melton coils theoretically fix a lot of the defensive issues the Lakers have

Maybe a change of scenery helps Smart end his career on a high note. He's got to feel some anger at being such a critical part of the C Bags rebuild only for them to win after they move him Adrian Dantley Detroit style. Could help being on a contender to go after the title shot one more time.

Well maybe it's only Smart and no Melton now? Just get some guards please. This roster is going from surf and turf and then you get some Jack in the box with the non AR guards
