The thing is with Rich Paul putting pressure on the FO, we don’t have a lot of moves we can make. We can maybe make 1-2 trades, and hope some ring chasers come here for the minimum. I don’t like defending the FO for inactivity, but that’s just the reality of the current situation. If he wants out that’s fine, he can wave the no-trade clause, but whatever team we send him to would have to do some probable gutting to match salaries, and we likely don’t want to take on any long term bad money, so there’s that too, would be difficult.

I would be shocked if he ever wears another jersey. It's his only leverage / pressure angle he can put on management to improve the roster.

Much more interesting than this language which has been pretty consistent with him trying to pressure the front office to give him a championship caliber roster as often as possible, is the opting in and the uncertainty of how much longer he wants to play.

He's not going to go quietly into the sunset. He wants the retirement tour. Meaning whenever his final year is, he'll announce it before the next season's schedule is finalized so Silver can maximize the locations and dates. Final game will be @ Cleveland. All the big cities will get marquee slots. Road cities will angle the dates to roll out the red carpet and start promoting the f*** out of it for all the league promos.

Yay #1 pick next year via the Lottery. I worked so well for Dallas to trade their star away and get Cooper Flagg. Now we get the same benefit by default just like them. HOORAY!!!!!!!!

I feel like if a championship was his TOP priority, he’d opt out, sign for whatever amount gives us the full MLE, and help us improve our title chances even by a little bit. But to me you can’t be wanting to compete for title at all costs and then be making 53 mil at age 40/41, when as good as you still are, you cannot carry the team anymore or play both sides of the ball anywhere near as consistently as you used to. I get that he’s worth that amount in a vacuum, but big stars have taken pay cuts to improve their teams roster at the end of their careers before, and to me it’s a shame he didn’t.

There's no one out there in this abysmal free agency worth him entertaining a pay cut this summer.

yeah, next year's FA class is the one where it would be worth taking a pay cut. not like he would either way though

remember, his ultimate goal is to own a franchise and he needs as much $ as he can get for that

I just feel like we could trade him and Bronny to somewhere and correct everything

Too competitive of a market. With Pistons and Hawks in the convo, we don't have a chance. Hawks can get him at $25m. Not sure if Pistons can quite get there, but they should be able to around $20m... maybe more

An open marriage would probably suit him just fine.

this is true, but his failure to do so last year was a bit weird to me, tbh. i feel like there were a few guys who signed above the tpmle that could have helped us be more competitive (e.g., goga might have turned the minny series, not exaggerating).

i'm just kinda done with him complaining about his supporting cast when he's had AD and now luka and makes max money at 40 years old.

If Lebron really wanted a championship, he will have take a pay cut. He has to choose between money or championship. He is a billionaire, money shouldn't be an issue with him. He doesn't get back on defense, takes plays off, lately always pulling his groin later in the season which inhibits his play. I hope he does go to New York, but NY has to question if they want him at his ripe age, whose pay level doesn't match his play imo, but will generate profit. It will take some time to build chemistry.

Hard to argue with this. I have tried to temper my anti-Lebron rhetoric but his mouth being a continuous fountain of foolishness doesn't make it easy. He is obviously all about LeBron, which is okay, but the extra jaw flapping makes him seem childish. Abeer knows this stuff way better than me and I'm thankful he is around. To me it seems no team contending would trade for him because of what it would cost to get him and his me me me attitude sucks. A non-contending might to fill seats but LeBron wouldn't do that. It seems we are stuck with him and need to just make the best of it. Everything lines up we can still win.

i actually think he's a great bet for a team like the knicks, and they can afford the price, too. and lebron will be hellbent to stick it to us/the haters or whomever.

and again, i'm a lebron fan. great player; he's been great on the court here. i just am glad to be largely freed from his power, for better or worse. and i get that we'll lose talent when he leaves/retires, but we have luka now. the FO is very wisely prioritizing the future.

and imo, that doesn't mean we can't compete this year, too. it just means we won't be pursuing short timeline stuff at the expense of long-timeline stuff. the knicks should definitely do that.

and i don't think lebron is childish, but i agree he looks out for lebron first, second, and third. that's his right, but we don't all have to go along for the ride in perpetuity.

I'd love for this NY thing to happen but I think there's about a 1% chance.

This is a better worder version of what I was going to say. The Knicks are desperate for a championship, and I think LeBron makes a lot of sense for them.

If you were an owner, or a GM trying to please an owner, who was desperate for a championship in the short run, wouldn't you trade Anunoby & MitchRob (& maybe even a little more), so that you could run out Brunson, Hart, Bridges, LeBron, and Towns? That team would be a co-favorite in the East next to Cleveland, and if they can get a good coach, I would favor them over Cleveland as well. No other team in the East is even close.

I would love to get any combination of NY players for LeBron since we will get nothing if we keep him for the lame “retirement tour” season.
