the rest of the league should be absolutely terrified

just look at what walter/guggenheim have done with the dodgers. ballmer's not the only one with deep pockets in LA anymore

hopefully he can clean house of all of jeanie's nepo hires and bring in some fresh blood

sad to see the buss era end. most successful team in the NBA in the modern era under their watch. but jeanie's penny pinching ways had become old

Mark Walter is entering agreement to purchase majority ownership of the Lakers from the Buss family for a valuation of approximately $10 billion, the largest sale of a professional sports franchise in the world, sources tell ESPN.

That's a lot of money lol

Lakers sold for $10 billion, highest sports franchise sale ever! C Bags only sold for $6 billion, just a few months ago.

Ladies and gentlemen. It has happened. The LA Lakers are now the most valuable team in sports.

    Two words

    Earth Shattering.

    This is Earth Shattering.

as big as Lakers getting Shaq as big as Lakers getting LeBron.

Makes sense why Lakers got Luka now. Knowing what was on the other side. Like I told yall Lakers always up to something.

    Dodgers got Ohtani.

Lakers very well can get Jokic. Any player they want. Shlit Wambyana it’s that big.

but players lining up. Gianis Durant whatever you name it.

The Lakers are back. This is similar to when Mark Cuban sold the Mavericks and said he will remain as owner making Basketball decisions yeah right. She remains owner in title. And will keep her seats.

They had to get 6 billion. End of an era Buss family owning the Lakers. It was a great run. How many championships??? 16 makes me wanna watch Winning Time.

This is big as Jerry West hire.

i'm real curious what motivated the buss family to sell

also, jeanie's going to get kicked to the curb sooner rather than later. just like how cuban was supposed to stick around after he sold the mavs

also, this goes beyond just roster building. the lakers obviously won't be able to spend like the dodgers do because of the cap/apron, but there's no cap on how much they can spend on positions like coaches, execs, strength trainers, analytics people, etc

the dodgers haven't become the best franchise in MLB simply because of the players on the roster

He already owns a large stake in the team so I'm curious to see what he is actually paying
He owned 21% and then brought Anshutz's 27% stakes at a 5 billion dollar valuation. So he's not paying 10 billion - if Buss family own 52% he's spending another 5 billion? Not sure what percentage teh Buss family still had

I don’t watch baseball I know the Dodgers are good obviously, but what does this mean for us? Are they going to be more willing to spend on free agents?

He is the CEO of the Guggenheim Group who most likely were involved in putting up a chunk of the dough. Just Speculating.

The apron taxes are still very punitive and Boston is not going to be able to bring everyone back because of it.
They were recently sold for $6 Billion.

Agreed, the immediate short term view is how we will upgrade the rest of the staff that doesn't include players.

I guess we will see if Walter sticks with Pelinka and how they plan to rebuild after Lebron. You can't just blow money on stuff like Conforto or the numerous young kids for Chelsea soccer team.

Jeanie would need to retain 15% of the Lakers to remain Governor.
Just doesn’t make sense for Mark Walter to spend $6 billion and not want to run things.
