RAIDERS NEWBIE MEDIA Josh Mauro Wired. He gets decent push against the run, but his athleticism is limited. That's why he has so few hits on QB and sacks in his career. JJ Nelson His catch% is atrocious, though it's only slightly worse than Cooper's (in Oakland). He's one of maybe a handful of guys with multiple sub 48% catch rates in the last three years. Targets: 74/ 61 / 19 Catches: 34 / 29 / 7 Drops: 4 / 6 / 0 Yards: 568 / 508/ 64 TDs: 6 / 2 / 0 Targets: 154 Catches: 70 (45%) Drops: 10 (6.5%) TDs: 8 (5.2%) Last year, among players with <50 targets, he drew the fourth most PI yards and literally no one drew more PIs per target (1 PI per 9.5 targets). He's an interesting guy. He scores on an absurd percentage of his targets. Antonio Brown, one of the best, is at 5.9% by comparison. He also has a ton of uncatchable balls thrown his way. I guess the Raiders will use him like they did with Patterson (saw 42 targets, 13 rushes with Oakland, scoring two TDs).
IN: Vontaze Burfict 28 years old one-year, $5m (guarantees?) Trend: 9 games, 9 starts, 0 INT, 4 PD, 0 FF, 1 Sack, 3 QB Hits, 3 TFL, 57 tackles Impact: He was 83rd among LBs last season, and he didn't grade out higher than any of the returning likely starters. I guess he's depth, but he dosn't move the needle as far as the unit goes. I should add that with concussions and suspensions, I don't understand why Oakland would sign him instead of someone like Te'o, who likely would have come cheaper and would have been at least as good.
One year rental...prove it contract. At least he'll be there to make sure everyone on the field understand their roles and be in their spots. That is if he isn't injured or suspended. Te'o is good but he has been oft injured too. Still have to draft someone at the position to learn and hope that he takes over...
IN: Nevin Lawson One-year, $3.05m Impact: He posted a 60.6 grade, good enough for 91st at CB. That's not good, but it would have been fourth best on Oakland and would probably be second best among players under contract (unless Benwikere is back). It lifts the position from a 43% (F) to a 48% (still an F). This is a position, mind you, where Oakland is young and has some talent (Conley and Nelson, at least). Oakland still looking at... George Iloka, DB Manti Te'o, LB Quick thoughts: Iloka was at 68.0 last season according to PFF. That's better than all Oakland CBs. Trends: 16 games, 10 starts, 1 INT, 3 PD, and roughly 4 AV. He'd be a solid addition. Te'o was at 80.4, according to PFF. That would blow away every Raiders' LB from last season. He's not without injury concerns, however, and does best in run situations. Trends: 8 games, 5 starts, 2 PD, 3 TFL, 3 AV. He has graded well in run stopping throughout his career. Adding Iloka and Te'o would give the Raiders a solid veteran presence on D, everywhere except up front. Still waiting on those RFAs.
IN: Jordan Devey Guard: ? Devey provides the depth and versatility that Feliciano had for the past few seasons. IN: Curtis Riley FS: Impact: at 58.0 (79th among Safeties), Riley is a solid depth add. He would be one of the lowest-rated Safeties on Oakland, but he might be better in coverage than some of their alternatives.
Looking at Riley's numbers - he was dead last among qualified Safeties in run defense and (I think) second best in coverage. His gig is pretty clear.
IN: Mike Glennon, QB ? years, ?M Impact: Glennon shouldn't have to take many snaps, but he brings some experience (22 starts) and some decent performances (29 TD vs. 15 INTs in his first two season). Glennon is a solid add.
He missed 23 tackles lol. I’m not sure Sanders gets in on 23 in a season. This dude just can’t tackle.
Some highlight reels: Mike Glennon: (Music very NSFW) Nevin Lawson: Note: Detroit fans think he was really clueless about assignments. Curtis Riley: (Not a sound tackler; wants to pound people) And an INT: Vontaze Burfict: Honestly, a bit hard to watch. He's dirty. Puts some brutal and cheap shots on people. Jordan Devey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbPXOpnYMPo Not a flattering play. Trent Brown: Destroying Rams - a fantastic D-front https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsF79MoK-PY
If all the top rated TE's are gone...should take a chance on Caleb Wilson. #5 on lists at the position. Excellent route runner, gets separation, decent blocker and great hands.
Here's how I have the tiers of TE right now: TIER ONE (Worth a 1-2 round pick, depending upon needs) Irv Smith Jr. Noah Fant TJ Hockenson TIER TWO (Worth a pick, not first two rounds) Kaden Smith Zach Gentry Keenen Brown Caleb Wilson TIER THREE (Worth a late pick) Jace Sternberger Alizee Mack Mitchell Wilcox Kahale Warring Isaac Nauta Josh Oliver Dawson Knox Michell Wilcox
BTW, I've purposely avoided changing my ratings after the Combine just to see if this gives more or less "noise" in the predictions of career success. I have a thought that in general the Combine doesn't really measure the things that matter for NFL success, but we'll see.
Raiders – Position Most Improved via Free Agency Wide Receiver: 19 to 26.5 points (from F to C-) Offensive Line: 45 to 57 (from D- to C) Raiders – Positions of Greatest Need Running Back 4 (F) (Richard signing will lift it considerably) Edge 10.5 (F) Cornerback 14.5 (F) (They're stronger at DB generally, but they need a CB) Linebacker 26.5 (C-) Draft Hopes Edge Rusher - Impact starter needed. Cornerback - Cover guy neeed. Tight End – Receiving TE needed. Linebacker - MLB needed. Running Back - Two-down back needed (Warren is a question mark, Richard and Washington haven't carried the load alone)
Crowell and Marshall would be huge additions. I'm still wondering whether we make a one-year offer to Suh, too.
Awesome signing. Awesome signing. Crowell was the 31st-rated RB last season Update 2: He's an injury concern, but Marshall is a nice possible lift.
