LABron James Discussion: The Final Year?

I was taking issue with your statement calling him about as flawless a player as there has "ever been". "Who comes close?" Not out of current players. Words have meaning.

No I am not hating on the guy or blaming him for anything, show one thing I have said even talking about him negatively since you have been here. You are the one with the unfettered love for everything LeBron. As I said just seems like you followed him here, not that you're any kind of Lakers fan really. Just good to know going forward with the context it will lend to your posts. And Kareem and Magic and Kobe and Shaq and all the other great Lakers have made their mark with this team. He hasn't done jack with the Lakers yet. He came with with his past history, and you're ready to maybe already anoint him the best Laker player ever.

 

Jordan and Kobe in their primes were perfect basketball players. I saw both play in their primes. No one comes close to those two in 30 years of watching basketball. They had no weaknesses. They could shoot, get to the hole, play D, make clutch shots, all of it.

Stats in today's NBA are watered down. Any one and everyone is getting triple doubles like they are 20 point games. The officiating is pure garbage that allows offense to do whatever they want with no allowance of aggressive defense.

That is why comparing players is useless. Era's and rules of that era dictate a lot of a players performance.

Lebron is an all time great but I would pick Jordan and Kobe in their primes 11 out of 10 times.

 

He’s already putting up numbers no Laker has in their prime. Agreed that it’s a very small sample size, but he’ll pass significant all time records while wearing this jersey.

Regret that he doesn’t have enough years left to retire 2 jerseys, but he’ll be the only guy in history with potentially good enough numbers to have retired 3 jerseys. His all time stars will be absurd when he’s done if he stays healthy and the Lakers give him some help.

 

I’m sure many other novice basketball fans feel the same, but if you are a numbers guy, those guys just didn’t have the same overall impact on the game. Magic and Russell are better comparisons. Some people get too caught up in overvaluing being a “closer” and being willing to take a low percentage shot in hopes of making it. Lebron has more game winning shots than either, so it can’t mean that much.

 

That is because Kobe and Jordan had all time teams that steamrolled teams, franchises and anything else that came in their path. I am not a numbers guy.

 

He could average 50/15/15 for all I care but he isn't getting a jersey retired here unless he wins a championship. You seem to be preaching Lebron's stats a whole lot but the only number that matters is #17 and beyond.

That’s the thing about Lebron fans, they think they are on some high IQ fandom level, like they know basketball but no one else does.

And that’s the other thing, you new school cats are “numbers” guys. Guys who have never played the game and know nothing about actual basketball past highlights and box scores.

Lebron having more game winning shots is true. In the playoffs is true. In the finals is true, and yet he is 3-6, so again numbers don’t matter when it comes to wins and losses. Heck Kobe was 6-24 in game 7 of the 2010 Finals, what was the outcome and what allowed us to win. Kobe passing it to Ron Artest to hit the dagger and grabbing 15 rebounds and hitting free throws. Kobe’s numbers sucked, but we won. He did what needed to be done in the closing minutes, as the leader, as the superstar. That’s what matters. You stans will never see this.

All you see is Lebron averaging a triple double and you all think he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread or some other analogy you wanna use.

 

I see we’re making a lot of assumptions about strangers these days. I guess that’s typical of Kobe stans when anyone threatens his legacy.

To be clear, I’d love to have both on one team. And Kobe would get the final shot most of the time. And probably off of a Lebron assist. After Lebron stole the ball or grabbed the rebound and brought it 94’

Both had different gifts. Both all time greats in their own way. But as for me and my house, we prefer the all around player, team game, the style of leadership of a Lebron, and the efficiency over Kobe’s game and style of leadership.

Perhaps not as much flash and glitz, but 9 trips to the Finals proves it’s quite effective, and he’s not close to being done.

 

Kobe in his prime is better than Lebron in his prime. End of story Nick Wright. Now go hang out with your boyfriend Colin Cowherd. This discussion is lowering brain activity.

 

Not to pile on since everyone else kinda has but give me a break... how can you say Jordan and Kobe didn’t have the same overall impact? Jordan was a defensive player of the year! So many players are on record stating Jordan was the best defender the game has seen. Little bit of hyperbole but somewhat warranted. LeBron while a good defender could not compare to MJ’s defensive side of the ball. Defense impacts the game just as much as offensive ability does. Don’t be seduced by stats.

Public Service Announcement: Stats do tell a story...maybe not the entire story, but it does paint a narrative.

For example: Kob vs Lebron, who's won more? Bust out that 5 to 3 stat and that conversation ends quickly.

So call me a Stat-n, I don't give a f*** but y'all talking s*** on stats as sports fans? How the f*** y'all know who won without a stat that keeps score? Hahaha

As for the tired Goat argument, I can't care less about that discussion. All I care about are great players winning titles for my great organization. Kob vs Bron as best overall player...yawn! Kob vs Bron as best Laker great... That's Kob by a country mile and imo Bron will never threaten that Laker legacy cause it's damn near impossible at this stage in his career to win 5 titles for the #Show, let alone beat out a guy thats been a Lifer. Kob's Laker legacy can't be touched and I'm shocked some fans of his feel threatened by LABron.

Anyways, hope Bron at least wins a couple for us and then maybe, just maybe he can start to rub shoulders with Shaq...but dude can't stand next to, let alone, enter a discussion with Laker greats like KAJ, Mag and Kob till he wins five here...that's just #factsstats!
