lavar is the only thing i worry about when it comes to drafting ball this young group does not need his loud mouth going to the media and complaining about his son's playing time a month into the season. if they're set on drafting ball, i hope they sit down with him and tell him that lavar needs to stay the hell away
Yeah that's the workout. I'm questioning the dinner. Knee jerk reaction is don't let him come to the dinner either, but then I ask the question of whether maybe they want to see that dynamic in a relaxed (much as a job interview can be) setting?
So John Ireland just said a source in the Lakers told him that Lavar was INVITED tonight to dinner... and said NO. He said the Lakers should get to know Lonzo without him. Lavar was also asked not to attend the workout tomorrow.
That lines up with everything we've heard from UCLA regarding this past season. Yes, Lavar is a blowhard who says dumb things from time to time in an effort to build his brand or whatever, but he also doesn't seem stupid. He's putting on an act that has gained him a following & some notoriety. He's also smart enough to know that being overbearing when it comes to Lonzo's actual basketball career is counterproductive to the Ball family's goals. I'm not worried about him moving forward in the slightest.
Wow. OK. Glad to hear that. Yes they should get to see him alone. Maybe Lonzo had his choice from LaVar and it was his decision to do solo? :Headbang:
Every impression I've got is exactly what JSJ said: Lavar has crafted a persona in order to make money. When it comes to his son and his son's actual goals on the court, he doesn't interfere nearly as much as people think. Based on everything I've seen, read, and heard I don't think Lonzo would care if his dad was there. I don't think he requires his dad's permission to go to dinner with the Lakers. I don't like Lavar, but I don't think he's as bad as people make him to be. He's a minor annoyance, not a full blown red flag. A full blown red flag is Jackson's jumper or Fultz's college record.
I think a LaVar knows himself well enough that he can be a loud overbearing guy who can't shut it off once he starts. It's better he's not there. This is Lonzo's time.
Trade dlo for their pick and okafor? Draft Ball and Jackson Ball/jc Jackson/nwaba Ingram/brewer Randle/nance Zu/okafor
It's here!! Dinner with Lonzo tonight. Workout tomorrow. And we'll get squat of what really went on. .... smell of weed here on LB while we wait. WAIT!! No! That was the Cavs locker room.
I'm not so sure. I wouldn't do it, for instance, as I see his value as higher than that. Better than anything in this draft. And okafor might be a negative. Not sure.
Dlo's play is being underrated by everybody but compare it to current All Stars' first two years and I think you'll realize we need to be patient. My problem with him is that can he fulfill his potential in Los Angeles with all the distraction.
With all due respect to LA, for a multimillionaire 20yo athlete these distractions are everywhere. What's the difference between, say, LA and Boston? NYC? Even Dallas? Yeah, he won't be able to get into a fight with a Hollywood actor or go on Kimmel, but all the rest: girls, clubs, shopping, nasty stuff, is all there if you have the money. May be not the same variety or sheer volume, but we should stop pretending that OKC is this: when it is this:
