What about for a late lottery and a decent player? Lots of options. But my first choice is to use it to massively increase our assets. Either a star or something else if higher value than the pick.
Vlade done some strange things too and we couldve said the same thing the dlo/okafor draft. Phi was set on Dlo, i dont know if mitch wouldve traded down for anything but if Hinkie wasnt such a draft horder he should of made attempts to get the guy he really wanted instead of thinking he won the draft again by getting the most talented player in that draft.
Yeah I mean I think everyone is banking on Vlade being crazy (or being told anyway) to do something like move two Top 10 picks for the #2 pick, but I just don't see it. I mean if you're looking at the draft and you want Fox/Collins or something like that, then wouldn't Sacramento want that too? I just don't think it's likely. If it's on the table, I'm willing to look into it, but I just don't think it's on the table. As for last year with Philly, I think it's possible they may have traded up on draft day, but the Lakers probably wouldn't have traded down. They saw Okafor up close and knew he didn't have it mentally. Why trade down when they could just take the better player? It's fun to talk about and think about, I just don't think the likelihood is there. If the Lakers trade the pick, it's probably for George. If they keep it, it's probably Ball unless he stinks in his workout. The real problem: there's too much time between the lottery and the draft. We've got nothing else to talk about!
Equally if not more important than these in person workouts with Ball and Fox (after they've also been studied their whole college seasons) .... will be the 2-3 hour dinners with each to get the Lakers FO a good feel for what these players have in their mental makeup. That is a nice long time to put each at ease and enjoy the evening while really getting to know them. LOL ...Ball can literally say he was born to be a Laker thanks to Pops. I'm sure Lonzo wants this more than anything as well. It's Lonzo's #2 pick to lose.
drafting ball or fox at #2 is a win to me but please for the love of god don't trade the pick. i don't care they can trade it for PG or to SAC for 5&10. missing out on ball or fox would be devastating i still think ball goes #2 unless he has an awful workout and/or the FO senses that there will be real problems with lavar
is that guaranteed though? if fox is for sure going to be available at 5 then sure, pull that trade. but you never know
Was re-watchingn some Josh Jackson highlights; I like him. His form in his shot, though? They'd probably have to rework that, maybe? Kid is a baller, though. Reminds me of Justise Winslow in some ways...
I admit I can't really get into the draft this year. I never can really, and dont follow college ball. If you guys didn't post highlights, I'd know even less. I think we take Ball with the pick, make a minor mid season move, and win about 40 games with a much improved and watchable style of play. I'll actually be glad when it's all over. I'm not looking forward to hearing more of Lavar Ball's nonsense though. My favorite post about him was something like this: LaVar is Spanish for "to wash" So his name literally means "to wash balls"
Also, the idea of trading down or trading your pick once you select for a lower pick plus an asset is fascinating, but we also have the 28th pick. I can't see that asset being another pick / because how much young talent do we need? Maybe later I'll have a scenario, but right now I got nuthin'
Trade 28th for future 1st, IF sac trade could happen and we got 5/10, i could see us pgking 10th/28th/jc future 1st for george.
i don't like the idea of trading for PG when he's a FA after the season take a hard run at him after the season. giving up assets for him is a mistake
Its not a mistake if you're not giving up alot. Lots of variables to consider with PG, he could still qualify for an all nba team next yr, hard to see him turning down 200+mill to come to a medicore to possibly bad laker team. He could get traded somewhere and compete and really enjoy his new team, indy could make a few good moves n indy makes the ecf (which isn't all that hard IMO as long as you avoid Clev in rd 1 or 2, everybody afyer clev is in same lvl imo). Indy couldve made ecf this yr had they not met clev in 1st rd, chi shouldve beaten bos had it not been for rondos injury
Winslow isn't a bad thought. He'll have some similar problems early on. I do like Jackson though and I think he'll do okay.
Hey guys, I had Jordan Schultz, the guy behind some of the Lakers not drafting Lonzo Ball rumors, on my show that came out this morning. We talked about it for a bit and he admitted that his source is not from inside the Lakers organization, so take that for what it's worth. He's still convinced the Lakers have real concerns about Lonzo, but I think an outside source's motive to put this out there has to be heavily considered. I've talked to one person with Lakers connections who told me that everyone they talked to laughed at the report. http://traffic.cast.plus/58b6aa22c1...ation/029_Mike_Schmitz__Jordan_Schultz.ou.mp3 For the second half of the show I had Mike Schmitz of Draft Express on, he as PHENOMENAL explaining which prospects he likes for the Lakers and which he doesn't. Had some great stuff on Lonzo and suggested some targets for 28 that sound very promising. Figured I'd pass that along...
Yeah I commented earlier that the wording, "(they're not convinced he's going to be a star)" is total BS. Guys like Magic and Luke and Rob no way would talk like that. They're basketball people not lightweights with opinions you'd find on TMZ. No workout yet. No 2-3 hour dinner to get to know him yet.
