Great person and GM. Had one major weakness which was free agency. Other than that in terms of drafting and trades, there is a snow balls chance in hell Magic and his crew can replicate.
Well he has been a Laker for a long time but I think the opinion on his work would be very different if it wasn't for the Kwame - Pau robbery ( assisted by an ex Laker) . Giving long contracts to bad players was another of his main weaknesses... and the latest 2 will hurt us without a doubt
Kupchak was going nowhere after the basketball reasons fiasco... he tried righting the ship but overreached and sank the franchise for the immediate future
In addition , he deserves a "thank you" for not doing something stupid to get Boggie just to save his a**
mitch is as classy as they come. the amount of work he put into this franchise is unparalleled unfortunately, the game simply passed him by. mitch is old school and just not cut out for today's NBA
That might be true, but the reality in big business is it can take one big mistake to get you fired. There are recently at least two decisions made that would have been tough to save anyone from losing their job. Those were on top of other decisions that put us in a predicament. Working around trying to make Kobe's last years competitive was a bit of a pass, but there were really no excuses for the Deng/Mozgov desperation signings. Even if they were market value, but the players lay an egg on the court, someone ends up paying for that decision. Not always fair, but he had a great run in a prestigious job, and he is set up for life. He is loved and respected, and it's ok to admit mistakes and realize you sometimes don't get to have time/privilege to fix them. It was time for a change.
the ariza trade is one that gets overlooked a lot since the gasol trade happened shortly after but it really was a great deal when you look back on it
